The city of Ulm
Ulm is a university town in Baden-Württemberg located on the Danube on the south-eastern edge of the Swabian Alb on the border with Bavaria. With over 125,000 inhabitants, Ulm is the largest city in the administrative district of Tübingen and in the Danube-Iller region, which also includes areas of the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia.
In 2016, Ulm generated a gross domestic product (GDP) of €9.25 billion within the city limits, putting it in 38th place in the ranking of German cities by economic output. In the 2016 Future Atlas, the independent city of Ulm was ranked 17th out of 402 districts and independent cities in Germany, making it one of the regions with “very high future prospects”.

Ende der 1960er-Jahre war das Ulmer Unternehmen Kässbohrer Deutschlands größter Hersteller von Omnibussen und Lkw-Anhängern.
Ab 1993 wurde das Unternehmen aufgeteilt in die heutige Kässbohrer Transport Technik, die Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG und die Bus-Sparte, die von Daimler-Benz übernommen wurde und heute unter dem Namen EvoBus nach wie vor Omnibusse mit dem Namen Setra herstellt, seit 2009 ihren Standort vollständig in Neu-Ulm hat.
In Ulm sind aus dem Automobilsektor ferner neben der Daimler AG mit dem von Richard Meier gebauten Forschungszentrum auf dem Oberen Eselsberg auch die Audi AG und BMW mit eigenen Forschungsabteilungen im Science Park II vertreten.
