Spider lifts – also known as tracked lifts or spider platforms – are the right choice when wheels won't do: on rough terrain, sensitive floors, and in confined indoor spaces. Luibl rents spider lifts from leading manufacturers such as CTE, Teupen, Hinowa, and Leguan with working heights from 13 to 40 metres – delivered Europe-wide via our own fleet of low-loader trucks across a network of more than 200 locations.

What makes spider lifts special?

The tracked undercarriage spreads the machine's own weight across a large contact area – minimal specific ground pressure, maximum protection for sensitive surfaces. The non-marking rubber tracks leave barely any marks on parquet, marble, or tiled floors with underfloor heating. On rough terrain, spider lifts handle gradients of up to 30% and drive safely over mud, sand, and gravel. Key technical data of our spider lifts:

  • Working height: 13 m to 40 m

  • Load capacity: 200 kg to 400 kg

  • Outreach: up to 17 m

  • Retracted width: from 78 cm – fits through standard doorways

  • Max. gradient: 30%

  • Drive: bi-energy (diesel/petrol + electric 230V/battery)

  • Turret rotation: 360° continuous

Articulated vs. telescopic spider lifts: the right type for your application

  • Articulated telescopic spider lifts (CTE TRACCESS series): Jib arm for overhead work above obstacles – galleries, pipework, ceiling beams.

  • Telescopic spider lifts (Teupen LEO series, up to 40 m): Maximum outreach of up to 17 m, fast positioning for façade work and tree canopy maintenance.

Applications: when is a spider lift the first choice?

  • Tree care & forestry: Narrow models (from 78 cm) reach backyards and parks.

  • Churches, museums & heritage protection: Emission-free operation + non-marking tracks protect historic fabric.

  • Industrial maintenance & facility management: Precise manoeuvring in tight factory halls.

  • Construction sites with difficult terrain: Mud, sand, gravel, and gradients of up to 30%.

  • Shopping centres & gymnasiums: Emission-free operation and low point loading.

  • Signage & illuminated advertising: 360° slewing range saves repositioning time.

  • Events & film production: For stage builds, rigging work, and camera moves in halls or outdoor venues, spider lifts offer the decisive advantage: no anchoring into the ground, no damage to hall flooring or lawns, emission-free operation even in enclosed event venues.

  • Building & window cleaning: The combined manoeuvrability and outreach of up to 17 m make spider lifts the preferred choice for glass façades, ribbon windows, and hard-to-reach exterior fronts – even on unpaved or uneven ground around the building.

Safety: instruction in accordance with DGUV Vorschrift 308-009

Aerial work platforms may only be operated by instructed personnel in accordance with DGUV Vorschrift 308-009. Upon rental start-up, your staff will receive proper instruction in operating the spider lift. For further qualification, we recommend a certified aerial work platform course to IPAF standard.

Delivery with our own low-loader – Europe-wide

Luibl delivers your spider lift with our own low-loader directly to the job site – in Passau, Lower Bavaria, Austria, and beyond, Europe-wide. Our own transport logistics ensure punctual delivery, professional handover, and reliable pickup. For work on level ground, we also offer articulated boom lifts and telescopic boom lifts for rent.

FAQs About Crawler Platforms

chevronDown

Which surfaces is a crawler platform best suited to?

Crawler platforms are specialised for extremely pressure-sensitive or uneven surfaces. Thanks to the wide load distribution of the crawler undercarriage, the specific ground pressure is minimal. They are therefore the first choice for lawns, historic paving, hall floors with underfloor heating or tiles in shopping centres. Outdoors, they handle mud, sand and gradients where wheeled aerial work platforms would fail.

Do crawler platforms fit through normal doors?

Yes, this is one of their biggest advantages. Many models in our rental fleet (e.g. in the 15 m to 17 m class) have a narrow undercarriage that is often only 78 cm to 90 cm wide when retracted. This allows the machines to be manoeuvred easily through standard interior doors, garden gates or narrow passages in industrial facilities.

Do the crawler platforms have an emission-free drive for indoor use?

Almost all of our spider lifts are equipped with a bi-energy drive. This means: for outdoor use, you use the powerful diesel or petrol engine. Indoors, you switch to the electromagnetic 230V mains drive or the integrated battery operation. This allows you to work completely emission-free and with low noise, ideal for hospitals, schools or churches.

How does the outrigger support work on uneven terrain or stairs?

Crawler platforms have what is known as variable outrigger support. The four outriggers can often be positioned asymmetrically and at various angles. This allows the machine to be perfectly levelled even on slopes, over wall projections or on stair steps. Modern sensor technology ensures automatic levelling at the push of a button.

Does Luibl deliver the crawler platform directly to the construction site?

Absolutely. As crawler platforms have no road approval due to their crawler drive and cannot travel to the place of use on their own, we organise transport with our special low-loaders. We deliver on schedule to Passau, Lower Bavaria, Upper Austria and, if required, directly to your place of use throughout Europe.

Do I need a special operator card for crawler platforms?

Yes, for safe operation, instruction in accordance with DGUV Rule 100-500 (formerly VBG 14) is required, along with corresponding authorisation by the employer. We recommend IPAF training (category 1b). If you do not have trained personnel, Luibl Rental in Passau also offers hire including an experienced operator.
