1. Indoors or outdoors? In halls, warehouses and production areas the electric forklift works locally emission-free and quietly. For demanding outdoor use with power reserves and no charging break, the diesel forklift is the more robust choice. If you have to cover both, the gas forklift is the usual compromise.

2. How firm is the ground? On gravel, soil or construction site terrain you need the all-terrain forklift with all-wheel drive, coarse tyres and more ground clearance. A hall forklift loses traction there.

3. How heavy and how bulky is the load? Beyond the usual classes, the heavy-duty forklift takes over. What matters is not only the weight: the rated capacity refers to a load centre of gravity of 500 mm — with deeper loads the actual capacity drops.

4. Is it about stacking in the warehouse rather than transport? Then the high-lift stacker is the more compact and less expensive solution than a counterbalance forklift.

A critical factor in forklift hire that is often underestimated is the relationship between capacity and load centre of gravity. The stated rated capacity of a forklift (e.g. 2.5 tonnes) generally refers to a load centre of gravity of 500 mm.
