The two core questions for hall use: clearance height and load capacity
Many users confuse two critical dimensions: working height and clearance height. This leads to costly wrong decisions.
The clearance height is the maximum height of the machine itself when the telescopic arms are fully retracted. This is the dimension that counts when you have to drive the telehandler through a hall door or under a canopy. A Manitou MT 625, one of the most compact rigid models in the Luibl fleet, has a clearance height of about 2.1 metres.
The working height (also called lifting height), on the other hand, describes how high the load can actually be lifted when the arms are fully extended. The same Manitou MT 625 reaches up to 6 metres lifting height – ideal when you have to store material at medium heights.

Understanding load capacity: dynamic reduction with outreach
The maximum load capacity – often stated on the type plate or in the data sheet – is only valid under a single condition: fully retracted boom in the basic position. As soon as you outreach the load by centimetres or lift it higher, the permissible lifting capacity decreases according to a precise load chart.
This is not a defect but physics. The greater the horizontal distance (outreach) and the higher the load is hoisted, the more tipping moment is created. The load moment limitation (LML) of the machine protects against you and your load tipping forward uncontrollably.

The special feature: these machines have an extremely narrow chassis width (often under 1.8 m) to fit into narrow storage aisles. Classic scissor lifts, articulating boom lifts or mast lifts are often too wide for this purpose.

Level 2b: mobile elevating work platform with a personnel basket
If you want to use a Roto as a mobile elevating work platform (work basket with up to 200 kg payload for two persons). This is a separate qualification with higher requirements for stability, rescue and emergency procedures.

Case 1: warehouse Munich – short-notice reconfiguration

FAQ: frequently asked questions about telehandlers in the hall
- Can I use a Roto telehandler in my hall with 7 metres height?
Yes, but with restrictions. A Merlo Roto 50.21 lifts up to 21 metres, but in your 7-metre hall you can only work up to the ceiling height (minus a safety margin, e.g. 6.5 m). More importantly: measure the clearance height of your entrance gates – it must be greater than the retracted machine height (~2.2–2.8 m for standard Rotos).
- I need 4 tonnes of load capacity at 5 metres height and 3 metres outreach. Which telehandler fits?
This is the classic „load-chart question“. A simple glance at the type plate does not help – you need the data sheet. The Magni RTH 5.21 S with 5 tonnes base load capacity only manages this combination with 2–2.5 tonnes of actual load. - May I drive a rented telehandler without a UVV inspection?
No. This is not only a compliance problem but also a case of insurance failure. Every telehandler from Luibl leaves the depot in Passau with a current UVV inspection (data in the inspection certificate). Your drivers need a valid DGUV 308-009 qualification. Should your team not be qualified, you can optionally book additional training.
- How long does delivery of a telehandler to my hall take?
Luibl Rental operates its own low-loader fleet with daily routes to all DACH countries and beyond. Standard delivery time: 3–5 working days after receipt of enquiry. For critical projects, a lead time of 1–2 weeks is recommended (transport permits, final planning).
- Can I use a telehandler with a work basket in my 6-metre hall as a mobile elevating work platform?
Theoretically yes, in practice with restrictions. The work basket for two persons is 0.6 metres high itself. The maximum working height for persons would therefore be 5.4 metres. In addition: you need an additional qualification (level 2b) and must have the machine inspected annually (UVV inspection for „lifting equipment with people conveyance“). - Slewing or rigid – which telehandler is better for the warehouse?
That depends on the usage profile:
