Rent Diesel Scissor Lifts – Rough-Terrain Scissor Lifts from 10 m to 34 m for Your Major Project

Anyone who needs to reach height with heavy loads on unpaved outdoor terrain cannot avoid a diesel scissor lift. Electric units are ruled out on topsoil, gravel, or sloped open ground – not because of lift height, but because of drivetrain, ground clearance, and load reserves under real-world conditions. The Luibl rental fleet comprises 27 diesel scissor lifts from renowned manufacturers such as Holland Lift, JLG, Magni, Genie, and HAB – with working heights from 10 m to 34 m and load capacities up to 1,000 kg. All machines are inspected prior to handover in accordance with the applicable inspection cycles of DGUV Regel 100-500 (Chapter 2.10) and DIN EN 280, and are delivered in technically flawless condition.

Performance Segmentation in the Luibl Rental Fleet: Compact, Large, and High-Reach Class

Not every diesel scissor lift is suited to every job. The decisive selection parameters are working height, platform payload, extended platform length, and the terrain capability of the chassis. Luibl divides its diesel portfolio into three performance classes so that you can already assess before making an inquiry which machine category your project requires.

Compact Class: 10 m to 14 m Working Height for Confined Outdoor Areas

Compact diesel scissors are the right choice when access routes are narrow, the ground is uneven, and double-digit working heights are still required. Models in this class have a narrow overall width that allows passage through standard construction-site gates, and an extending deck that increases usable platform area without a lifting operation. Typical applications include façade work on existing buildings with limited forecourt space, installation work on factory premises with an uneven gravel bed, or assembly work on construction sites where no crane is available.

Machine class at a glance:

  • Working height: 10 m to 14 m
  • Drive: diesel/all-wheel drive
  • Gradeability: up to 45%
  • Platform design: extending deck for elevated material storage

Large Scissor Lifts with Extended Deck: 15 m to 22 m

From approximately 15 m working height upward, the focus shifts to platform capacity. In hall and façade construction, these machines are used when several people work on the platform at the same time and materials such as sandwich panels, ventilation ducting, or beam profiles need to be handled directly from the deck. The platforms in this class extend to lengths of over 6 m, with a load capacity of up to 750 kg – enough for two people with heavy tools and semi-finished material.

A proven machine in this segment is the JLG Liftlux 203-24: 22.5 m working height, 750 kg load capacity, 10 m² platform area, 11,400 kg unladen weight. The same applies to the HAB S225-24 D4WDS with 22.5 m working height and all-wheel drive. Both models are available with white, non-marking solid rubber tires – a key criterion for use in freshly coated factory halls, where conventional off-road tires would leave tire marks.

The JLG Liftlux 260-25 covers the upper limit of this class with a 28 m working height. All-wheel steering combined with all-wheel drive ensures precise propulsion even on uneven terrain; proportional control of all drive and lift functions enables millimeter-precise positioning under load. In the retracted state, the machine moves at 3.6 km/h, while in the raised state travel speed is limited to 0.3 km/h.

Machine class at a glance:

  • Working height: 15 m to 28 m
  • Load capacity: up to 750 kg
  • Platform design: extending large deck, non-marking solid rubber tires available
  • Typical models: HAB S225-24 D4WDS, JLG Liftlux 203-24, JLG Liftlux 260-25, HAB S280-25D 4WDS

High-Reach and Large Scissors: 23 m to 34 m for Industrial Plant Construction

The upper performance range of the Luibl rental fleet covers projects for which no other type of aerial work platform is sufficient: façade installations on multi-story industrial and logistics buildings, steel construction assembly in plant engineering, roof work on halls with ridge heights above 20 m. Luibl is one of the few rental companies in Germany that holds several 34 m diesel scissor lifts in its own fleet.

The flagship of this class is the Holland Lift HL 340D30 4WDS: 34 m working height, 1,000 kg load capacity, 3 m platform width, unladen weight of approximately 32 tonnes. The platform can be extended up to 9.66 m – a figure rarely matched by comparable competitor products. Control of all drive and lift functions is proportional. An electronic tilt sensor automatically shuts off the lift function as soon as the permissible terrain incline is exceeded. A differential lock and an engageable high-speed gear round out the chassis.

Also in the fleet: the Magni DS3225RT with 32 m working height, as well as the Holland Lift Megastar G320, the predecessor model of the HL 340D30 with identical working height.

Important planning note: Machines in the 34 m class have an overall width of 3 m and a transport weight of nearly 32 tonnes. This makes special transport necessary. Plan a lead time of approximately 2–3 weeks for permits and transport organization. Luibl coordinates the special transport with its own low-loader fleet.

Machine class at a glance:

  • Working height: 23 m to 34 m
  • Load capacity: up to 1,000 kg
  • Platform extension (max.): up to 9.66 m
  • Transport logistics: special transport required from the 34 m class upward, lead time 2–3 weeks
  • Typical models: Holland Lift HL 340D30 4WDS, Magni DS3225RT, Holland Lift Megastar G320

Technical Equipment for Demanding Terrain: All-Wheel Drive, Oscillating Axle, and Differential Lock

On paper, "off-road capable" sounds like a simple feature. In practice, it is the combination of several chassis characteristics that determines whether a diesel scissor lift can actually be set up safely on a real construction site.

All-wheel drive and all-wheel steering are the basic prerequisite. All-wheel drive transmits drive power evenly to all axles – essential on soft ground, where a single axle alone would spin freely. All-wheel steering allows obstacles to be maneuvered around in the tightest of spaces, something that is often underestimated with long platform machines used outdoors.

Oscillating axle: On uneven surfaces, the oscillating axle allows all four wheels to maintain permanent ground contact – even when the terrain varies between the axles. Without this feature, a wheel would lift off on uneven ground, causing lateral instability that the electronic tilt sensor may detect but cannot prevent. The oscillating axle is standard equipment on most machines from the 20 m class upward.

Differential lock: If a drive wheel loses traction on slippery or soft ground, the differential lock prevents one-sided wheel spin and redirects torque to the wheel with better grip. In façade construction on topsoil – especially after rainfall – this feature is the decisive difference between a functional machine and one that gets stuck.

Solid rubber tires vs. off-road tires: Off-road models with foam-filled or solid rubber tires have a decisive advantage in factory halls and on freshly coated industrial floors: they leave no tire marks. For projects where the machine switches between outdoor and indoor use, this is an important selection criterion. The HAB S225-24 D4WDS is available in the Luibl fleet with such non-marking solid rubber tires.

Logistics and Safety Standards at Luibl Equipment Rental

All diesel scissor lifts from the Luibl rental fleet undergo a technical inspection prior to delivery. The inspection requirement arises from the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung (BetrSichV, Industrial Safety Ordinance) in conjunction with DGUV Regel 100-500 and DIN EN 280 – the European standard for mobile elevating work platforms. This standard mandates regular inspections by competent persons, defines the minimum design requirements (tipping stability, load charts, wind load limits), and sets out the documentation obligations for the operator.

For long-term rentals, Luibl offers combined packages that include a UVV inspection (accident-prevention regulation inspection) and annual maintenance – particularly useful for projects lasting several months, since the inspection requirement applies regardless of whether the machine is purchased or rented.

Transport is carried out using Luibl's own low-loader fleet. For standard machines up to 28 m working height, no special permit is generally required. For the 34 m class (3 m overall width, weight of approximately 32 t), special transport is necessary – Luibl coordinates the permit and vehicle provision. Delivery is available throughout Germany and to all other Luibl markets: Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Luxembourg.

In the event of technical faults during the rental period, a technician callout can be requested via the form at luibl.eu. The technician is dispatched directly to the job site to minimize downtime.

Checklist for site managers before ordering equipment:

  • Check the ground bearing capacity at the setup location (guideline: point load depending on machine class up to 30 t on a base area of approx. 3 m × 4 m)
  • Clarify access width and clearance height for the low-loader and machine
  • Measure the terrain incline (maximum permissible per manufacturer specification; typically ≤ 3° in operation for 34 m models)
  • Request the inspection report from the most recent UVV inspection for submission to the authorities
  • For 34 m models: allow 2–3 weeks lead time for the special transport permit

FAQ on Diesel Scissor Lift Hire

chevronDown

Up to what ground gradient may a diesel scissor lift be operated outdoors?

The permissible operating gradient is manufacturer-specific and stated in the data sheet of the respective machine. Large machines in the 34 m class (e.g. Holland Lift HL 340D30) are fitted with an electronic tilt sensor that automatically locks the lifting function when the gradient limit is exceeded. This prevents the machine from entering lifting operation on ground that is too steep. For outdoor use on topsoil or gravel, the general rule is: measure the ground load-bearing capacity and local gradient before setting up, as soft ground yields under load and the effective gradient increases.

What legal requirements apply to the operation of a rented diesel scissor lift?

The operating obligations lie with the respective operator, i.e. the renting company. The legal basis is the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung (BetrSichV), supplemented by DGUV Regel 100-500 (Chapter 2.10: Operating lifting equipment and work platforms). Accordingly, a mobile elevating work platform may only be operated by instructed persons; for certain equipment and tasks, proof of operator instruction – such as an IPAF certificate (PAL Card) – is professionally recommended and internally required in many companies. Luibl offers corresponding training through partner organisations. The machine itself is handed over with a current inspection report.

How is the transport of heavy diesel scissor lifts to the construction site organised?

Luibl delivers with its own low-loader fleet. For models up to 28 m working height, a standard low-loader is sufficient in most cases. Machines in the 34 m class have a transport weight of approx. 32 t and an overall width of 3 m – this requires a registered special transport. Luibl handles the transport planning including permit coordination. The only requirement: for 34 m models, the order should be placed at least 2–3 weeks before the desired delivery date.

Is long-term rental worthwhile compared to short-term rental for large projects?

From a rental period of several weeks, long-term conditions are more economical than consecutive short-term rentals. On request, Luibl prepares individual project quotes that combine machine packages, transport logistics and – with a corresponding term – an integrated UVV inspection. For large construction sites such as industrial hall installations or façade projects with several machines simultaneously, we recommend direct coordination with the Luibl sales team via a combined offer.

Submit a no-obligation request for your project now – simply provide your desired working height, location, and rental duration, and Luibl will prepare a tailored quote including availability and transport planning:
