Why rent an electric forklift instead of diesel?

Electric forklifts aren't just the "clean" alternative – in many application profiles they are also the more economical choice. Three core benefits are measurable:

  • Emission-free operation: No combustion exhaust, allowing unrestricted use in enclosed warehouses, cold stores and areas with food or pharmaceutical production. The German Workplace Ordinance (ArbStättV) requires the avoidance of hazardous exhaust fumes in enclosed spaces – electric forklifts meet this requirement without any additional effort.

  • Lower operating costs per operating hour: At current energy prices, electricity clearly beats diesel. This is compounded by lower maintenance costs, since there are no oil changes, drive belts or exhaust after-treatment to deal with.

  • Noise reduction: An electric motor operates well below the sound pressure level of a diesel drive when used indoors. This reduces the noise exposure for your staff and is often the decisive factor for night-shift operation or work near residential areas.

Typical application areas for electric forklifts: food industry, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive supply logistics, trade fairs and exhibition halls, deep-freeze warehouses, production buildings with enclosed ventilation.

Our rental fleet – the right solution for every application

Luibl operates a segmented electric forklift fleet that covers every requirement profile, from the agile three-wheel compact unit to the 10-tonne heavyweight.

3-wheel electric forklifts – maximum manoeuvrability in the tightest spaces

The three-wheel design noticeably reduces the turning radius and is the first choice for narrow aisles, tight rack blocks and dense storage layouts. Typical models in the Luibl rental fleet:

Application tip: Three-wheelers show their strength in aisles under 3.20 m working width. For wider aisles and heavier loads, a four-wheel model is the better choice.

4-wheel electric forklifts – stability and power for heavy loads

Four-wheel forklifts provide greater stability at lift loads from around 2 tonnes and are more resilient for light yard duty on firm ground. Selected models:

Application tip: The 8- and 10-tonne units are mainly used in container handling, steel construction supply and plant logistics – anywhere diesel machines are ruled out due to indoor operation.

Technical highlights of our rental equipment

Lithium-ion or lead-acid – which battery technology fits?

The choice of battery technology has a major impact on productivity in multi-shift operation.

  • Lead-acid batteries are the proven, cost-effective option for single- and two-shift operation. Charging takes place overnight after the shift. Advantage: lower rental cost, sufficient for 6–8 hours of continuous operation. Disadvantage: longer charging times, intermediate charging not recommended, an acid-safe charging room must be set up.

  • Lithium-ion batteries (e.g. in the EP CPD20L1-Li or CPD50F8 Li) enable opportunity charging: a short charge during the lunch break is often enough for another shift. Advantage: 24/7 operation possible, no separate battery room, no off-gassing. Disadvantage: higher rental price, though almost always more economical in 3-shift operation.

For 3-shift operation we generally recommend Li-ion, or alternatively a second lead-acid battery with a swap frame. Our team will be happy to advise you on the right configuration for your shift model.

Mast types – duplex, triplex and free lift

The mast determines up to what height and under what door dimensions the forklift can be used.

  • Duplex mast: Two-stage, standard design. Suitable for lift heights up to approx. 3.50 m without a free-lift requirement.

  • Triplex mast: Three-stage with initial free lift. Ideal for container unloading or truck loading through low door heights. The forks can be raised without the mast extending.

  • Initial free lift: Crucial when working under a warehouse door or a ceiling with limited height. Models such as the EP EFL302 with triplex mast offer clear advantages here.

Residual load capacity – the often overlooked factor

The rated load capacity only applies at the standard load centre (usually 500 mm) and low lift height. At maximum lift height, residual load capacity drops by 20–40% depending on the model. Important: Always plan your loads against the load chart of the specific machine – not against the advertised rated load. Our specialists will send you the relevant data sheet on request.

Tyres and floor protection

Our electric forklifts are fitted as standard with non-marking solid rubber tyres. They leave no black scuff marks – a requirement in food operations, cleanrooms and representative exhibition areas. This tyre type is standard at Luibl for hybrid use switching between indoor halls and paved yards.

Case study – seasonal peaks in food logistics

For a major project in the food industry, we secured multi-shift operation during the Christmas trading period over several weeks. The challenge: 24/7 operation in a deep-freeze warehouse where diesel and gas forklifts are ruled out by design. The solution: lithium-ion electric forklifts with opportunity charging plus spare batteries held in reserve. Result: no unplanned downtime, full performance across all shifts. Technical support was provided by our on-site technician service with a guaranteed response time.

Safety, UVV and insurance

All Luibl rental forklifts are inspected before every rental in accordance with BetrSichV (German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health) and DGUV Vorschrift 68 and are delivered with a valid accident-prevention regulations (UVV) inspection sticker. For long-term rentals, we take care of the recurring inspections for the duration of the rental period.

Operator qualification: Under DGUV Grundsatz 308-001, forklift operators require written authorisation, a medical fitness examination (G25) and practical instruction – the classic "forklift licence" (Staplerschein). We offer training throughout Germany and also provide in-house training: details on our training page.

Insurance: We optionally offer liability reduction for your rental machines. Terms are provided in the quote.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Electric Forklift Hire

chevronDown

Can I add accessories such as a side shift or fork positioner?

Yes. Many rental forklifts at Luibl come factory-fitted with a side shift. Fork positioners, rotators for emptying waste bins, a full cab, a driver protection roof or a windscreen with wiper can be configured on request – particularly of interest for long-term rentals.

How much does it cost to hire an electric forklift?

Hire prices depend on three factors: load capacity and model, hire duration and location of use. As a rough guide: compact three-wheel electric forklifts cost considerably less per day than heavy-duty machines from 5 tonnes upwards. Long-term hire from three months onwards significantly reduces the daily rate and includes statutory safety inspections and annual maintenance. We put together a firm quote within 24 hours of your enquiry.

Are electric forklifts suitable for outdoor use?

Yes – with some limitations. On firm, paved yards, modern electric forklifts with IP54-protected components perform reliably. For unpaved ground, mud or steep gradients, rough-terrain forklifts with diesel or LPG drives are the better choice. For hybrid applications (warehouse plus yard), we advise on the right tyre setup and IP rating.

How long does a battery charge last during hire operation?

A lead-acid battery covers a 6-8 hour shift under normal use. Lithium-ion systems last longer for the same usage profile and can be quickly topped up in between. The actual runtime depends on load profile, lifting frequency and travel distances.

Is the charger supplied with the machine?

Yes. At Luibl, the matching charger – 48V, 80V or, for the largest machines, 96V – is included as standard. You simply need to provide a suitable industrial power connection (usually CEE 32A or 63A) at the site.

What infrastructure do I need on site?

Lead-acid batteries require a ventilated charging area (risk of gassing). This requirement doesn't apply to lithium-ion systems, though fire-safety clearance distances should still be observed. A power connection, a dry parking area and sufficient manoeuvring space are usually all that's needed.

Which brands are in the Luibl hire fleet?

We currently stock electric forklifts from Hyundai, EP, Kalmar and Maximal Forklift across all common load-capacity and lift-height classes. We check the actual availability of a specific machine within a few hours of your enquiry.

Does Luibl deliver across Europe?

Yes. Using our own low-loader fleet and partner network, we deliver to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Belgium, the Netherlands and other European countries. We take care of customs and transport formalities.
