Approvals before set-up

If the lift stands on public ground, you need a special use permit from the city. If the work affects a listed building, coordinate scope and execution with the responsible monument protection authority. Both take lead time, so it pays to fix the date and machine early.

Stadtamhof and the Woehrd islands

Stadtamhof and the Danube islands Oberer and Unterer Woehrd lie between the river arms. During the flood in June 2013, the water level at the Iron Bridge rose to around 6.80 m. Check the ground here after wet weeks and, if in doubt, choose a lighter model.

Automotive manufacturing, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and microelectronics shape Regensburg's economy; the BMW Regensburg plant is the best-known site. Church towers and high gables

From this class upwards, the lifts weigh 18,114 to 24,856 kg. The set-up position must take this load, on paving above cellars as well as on green areas. Also pay attention to the platform load: the Genie SX-150 and SX-180 carry 340 kg, the JLG 1350SJP 450 kg and the Genie SX-135XC 454 kg at 27.43 m outreach. Trees and riverside areas

Along the Danube and Regen, the city is expanding its flood protection section by section together with the Water Management Office. Anyone working on banks, walls or trees near the river coordinates the set-up position with the respective client. With large outreach, the lift stays on firm ground while the platform works over the embankment or tree crown.

Halls, warehouses and commercial buildings usually require medium heights with a solid platform load. For facade panels and advertising signs, the Manitou 220 TJ Plus with 21.74 m and the Manitou 260TJ with 25.91 m are suitable, both with 400 kg in the platform. For roof edges and gutters, a Genie S-65 with 21.80 m height and 17.10 m outreach is often enough.

When working on rooflights or roof edges, the person stays in the platform and secures themselves there at the designated anchor point. Exiting onto the roof is only permitted if the operating manual and the risk assessment expressly provide for it. Also check whether truck manoeuvring areas need to be closed during the work, because an extended lift is difficult for drivers to judge.

At the port

The Port of Regensburg consists of the West Port, East Port, Oil Port and passenger shipping at the Donaulaende; cargo handling is mainly operated by bayernhafen. On port areas, coordinate access and set-up position with the operator. Quay edges and tracks limit the set-up area, and the outreach has to compensate for this.

The university, OTH and University Hospital continue working even when construction is under way on their buildings. The university campus is around 2 km south of the old town, and the hospital, with over 5,000 employees, lies beyond the A3. Plan barriers there so that escape routes and access for emergency services remain clear.

Glass facades and sun shading require outreach and platform load at the same time. The Genie S-65XC offers 16.51 m horizontally, the Genie S-85XC 22.71 m, both with 454 kg. Working hours at off-peak times and a clear contact person at the operator reduce waiting times on site.

In atriums and foyers, the electric models are the obvious choice because no exhaust may be produced there. At university buildings, the lecture-free period is a good time, when fewer people are around. In the hospital environment, also agree whether windows to patient rooms must remain closed during the work.

From Passau it is around 120 km via the A3 to Regensburg. The lifts arrive by low-loader, so the unloading area needs access for the articulated lorry and a load-bearing surface. With 5,900 to 24,856 kg operating weight, the model determines the vehicle type.

Who may operate

The decisive standard is DGUV Grundsatz 308-008. Operators are trained, instructed by the employer and authorised in writing. The instruction is based on § 12 ArbSchG and § 12 BetrSichV. An operator card or the IPAF PAL Card serves as proof.
