Three job sites, three completely different requirements — and just one supplier that keeps the right platform type for each in stock. Anyone who regularly works at height in Lübeck knows the difference between a generic machine and one that suits the ground conditions, the access route and the task.

Scissor Lifts for Industry and Installation Work

Scissor lifts are the workhorses of vertical access. They offer a large platform — up to 5.48 m platform length with Luibl — providing working space for several people plus materials. Two drive variants cover Lübeck's different areas of use:

The key factors when choosing: the basket load (i.e. how many people plus materials may be on the platform at once) and the ground pressure determine suitability for the job site. On hall floors with low point loads (e.g. thin industrial screeds) or on sensitive paving in the old town, the load charts must always be checked before use.

Articulated and Telescopic Boom Lifts for Maximum Reach

When obstacles need to be bridged — trees in front of a façade, a projecting structure, a parked vehicle that cannot be moved — the scissor lift reaches its limit. This is where articulated boom lifts show their strength:

• Articulated boom lifts combine an extending main boom with a jointed jib arm. This makes it possible to achieve up-and-over heights that plain telescopic boom lifts cannot reach. A classic Lübeck application: renovating windows and rendered façades on Gründerzeit-era buildings in St. Lorenz, where the platform's standing position cannot be directly in front of the building

• Telescopic boom lifts with working heights up to 57 m and horizontal outreach up to 24 m. For tall industrial structures, chimney work, and antenna and crane installation along the River Trave. Horizontal outreach is the decisive parameter here — it determines how far work can be carried out horizontally over obstacles

Both platform types are flexible in transport and set-up thanks to their comparatively low unladen weight. Depending on the model, diesel, electric and hybrid variants are available.

Truck-Mounted Platforms and Trailer-Mounted Lifts for Mobile Jobs

Anyone servicing several sites a day — façade cleaning, tree care, traffic signage, lighting maintenance — doesn't need a permanently installed platform, but a mobile piece of equipment:

• Truck-mounted platforms can be collected directly by the hirer and driven to changing job sites in Lübeck and the surrounding area (Bad Schwartau, Stockelsdorf, Travemünde, Bad Segeberg)

• Trailer-mounted lifts are the more compact option — towed by an ordinary car, usable where a 7.5-tonne truck can't reach

• Tracked work platforms (spider lifts) with over 50% gradeability for rough terrain, parks, cemeteries and slopes

Regarding driving licences: for truck-mounted platforms, the permissible gross weight is decisive — category B covers up to 3.5 t, above that B96, C1 or C depending on the vehicle. Trailer-mounted lifts are often already under 750 kg and can therefore be towed without a trailer licence extension.

The Old Town: Narrow Access Routes and Paving Protection

Lübeck's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and a special logistical case. Narrow lanes, a medieval street layout, sensitive cobblestone paving and access-restriction hours limit any standard operation. Three points are crucial here:

• Check the access width: some platform models are narrower than 1.20 m — a requirement for many old-town lanes. We provide data sheets with exact transport and operating dimensions before delivery

• Load distribution on cobblestones and historic ground: outrigger feet are placed on appropriately sized support pads or ground-protection mats. Both can be hired through Luibl

• Emission-free drive: where residents and indoor use are sensitive, electric models are deployed — pure electric versions are available even for larger articulated boom lifts

Industrial Areas: Ground Pressure, Indoor Use, Four-Wheel Drive

In the port area, in Herrenwyk and Siems, the requirements look different. Here, capacity, reach and outdoor capability count:

• Diesel four-wheel drive for unpaved industrial areas, works roads and logistics yards

• Oscillating axles for load distribution on uneven and undulating ground

• High-bay scissor lifts with 22 m, 28 m and 33 m working heights and a slim design for logistics centres — for maintaining sprinkler systems, lighting and racking systems

• Telescopic handlers with work basket as an alternative where extreme horizontal outreach is needed together with high load capacity

For development and new-build projects around Genin or the industrial areas along the A1, rough-terrain platforms with high gradeability are standard.

The process in four steps:

Enquiry via the online form or by phone. Three details are enough for an initial proposal: the job site in Lübeck, the rental period, and the desired working height or specific task. Anyone who describes the task rather than just naming a model often gets a better-suited machine — for example, an articulated boom lift instead of a telescopic boom lift, because the horizontal outreach specified in the data sheet is what the task actually requires.

Quote with transparent terms. Rental price, delivery fee, optional machine breakdown insurance, any final cleaning charge — all set out in writing before the contract is signed. No hidden items after return.

Delivery with our own low-loader. Luibl operates its own specialist vehicles. This removes the typical delays caused by third-party hauliers — especially important for deliveries subject to access-restriction hours in the old town or for time-critical industrial shutdowns.

Handover with a report. Operating hours, battery charge level for electric units, visible condition, accessories — all documented. The same report is used on return. This avoids disputes over pre-existing damage.

Anyone who cannot or does not want to provide their own operator can request a qualified driver for the rental period via the technician request service.

Mobile elevating work platforms are subject to strict regulation. Three points must be clarified before every rental:

On the equipment side. Every platform is UVV-inspected in accordance with the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) and DGUV Regulation 1. The design standard is DIN EN 280. The annual inspection is documented by independent experts; for long-term rentals it is included in the terms.

On the operator side. Documented instruction is mandatory for self-propelled mobile elevating work platforms. The qualification follows DGUV Principle 308-008 (operating authorisation for mobile elevating work platforms). Internationally recognised is IPAF training with a PAL Card, which Luibl offers at various locations — both as an individual booking and as in-house training for entire teams.

On the operational side. The risk assessment at the job site is legally the responsibility of the operator's employer. Luibl provides technical data sheets, load charts, conformity documents and guidance on DGUV Rule 100-500 (Operation of Work Equipment, Chapter 2 on the operation of lifting equipment and mobile elevating work platforms) as a basis.

A daily pre-use inspection (visual and functional check) is mandatory and cannot be delegated — not even to the hire company.

Three issues that rental agreements regularly get stuck on:

Machine breakdown insurance. Available as an optional add-on, it reduces the excess payable in the event of damage. Terms depend on rental duration and equipment class — details are agreed in writing before the contract is signed.

Liability insurance. The hirer's public/product liability insurance must cover the use of rented equipment. Standard policies usually do so, but for special jobs (working at height over public roads) it's worth calling your own insurer.

Operator training as a liability factor. Missing or undocumented instruction can lead to the employer being held personally liable in the event of damage. IPAF or equivalent certificates should therefore be in place before the first use — not obtained afterwards.
