Rent Telescopic Boom Lifts in Salzburg – Luibl Boom Lifts with All-Wheel Drive & Telescopic Arm
When a warehouse roof refurbishment is waiting on a site in Salzburg-Liefering, or a steel beam needs replacing 35 m up at the voestalpine site in the Flachgau, the reach of the machine determines how long the work stands still. Luibl Rental & Sales delivers diesel telescopic boom lifts with working heights from 16 m to 57 m straight into the city of Salzburg, into the Flachgau (Bergheim, Anthering, Seekirchen, Wals-Siezenheim) and into the Tennengau (Hallein, Kuchl, Golling) — with our own low-loader fleet and no waiting on external hauliers.
High-performance telescopic boom lifts for construction & industry in Salzburg
A telescopic boom lift differs from an articulating boom lift in that its main boom extends in a straight line. It's the more economical choice when the set-up area is freely accessible and no outreach over obstacles is required — in other words, for classic facade work, steel construction assembly, industrial maintenance and lighting mast upkeep in the greater Salzburg area.
Typical areas of use in the greater Salzburg region:
-
Steel construction and hall building in the industrial parks of Wals-Siezenheim, Hallein and Bergheim — usually with diesel models from 28 m working height upwards (Genie S-85, S-125).
-
Facade installation and roof repair on industrial buildings in Itzling and Liefering — reach requirement 16 m to 43 m, standard class Genie S-45 to SX-135XC.
-
Bridge and infrastructure maintenance along the A1 western motorway and over the Salzach — large machines SX-150 and SX-180 with working heights of up to 57 m.
-
Steel hall assembly and lighting mast service on outdoor sites and logistics centres — diesel all-wheel-drive models with oscillating axle for unpaved ground.
For hall installations in emission-sensitive production areas — such as food processing or the pharmaceutical industry — diesel telescopic boom lifts are not suitable. Here, the articulated boom variant with electric drive is used instead. These machines are described in detail on the aerial work platform category page.
Technical precision: why telescopic boom lifts are the more efficient choice
Three key figures determine whether a telescopic boom lift is suited to a particular job: working height, side reach and platform capacity. Get the sizing wrong here and you pay twice — once for the rental, and once for the lost day.
Working height vs. reach: Working height refers to the height at which the platform floor edge, plus a notional 2 m eye-level allowance, sits. Side reach (outreach) measures how far the platform can be positioned horizontally from the machine's centre axis. On the Genie SX-180, that's 24.4 m horizontal at 56.9 m vertical working height — a ratio unmatched by any other self-propelled boom lift class.
Mind the load chart: Maximum platform load isn't a constant. It reduces as soon as you leave the primary working zone. Take the Genie S-125: 227 kg standard load for three people plus tools — at full side reach, reduced values from the load chart apply. Before every rental, an honest calculation is essential: two fitters (180 kg), tool bags (15 kg), materials (any fixings or fasteners). Plan with an underestimated load and you'll box yourself in on site.
Platform slew range: The ability to slew the platform arm horizontally determines whether the lift needs repositioning for spot work. Genie's S-series models slew up to 160°, the SX-series up to 135°. On facade work along a long frontage, a wide slew range significantly cuts down on repositioning per shift.
Model choice in the Salzburg fleet:
-
Genie S-45 – 16 m working height, 227 kg platform load, diesel, 35% gradeability. Entry-level class for industrial halls and low facades.
-
Genie S-85 – 28 m working height, 230 kg, 45% gradeability, active oscillating axle. Standard machine for construction and industry.
-
Genie S-85XC – identical construction to the S-85 with a 450 kg heavy-duty platform (XC = Xtra Capacity). Suited when a fitter plus heavy connecting materials are needed at the same time.
-
Genie S-125 – 40 m working height, 227 kg, 3-person platform, mini-X chassis. Mid-range class for higher steel construction positions.
-
Genie SX-135XC – 43 m working height, 450 kg heavy-duty. First choice when reach and load capacity are equally demanding.
-
Genie SX-150 – 48.33 m working height, 24.38 m side reach, 340 kg, retractable/extendable X-chassis.
-
Genie SX-180 – 56.9 m working height, 24.4 m side reach, 340 kg. Flagship model for bridge construction, large-scale steel hall assembly and industrial chimneys.
If you need outreach over a roof or canopy, a telescopic boom lift is the wrong choice — an articulating boom lift such as the Genie ZX-135/70 is the technically correct option instead.
All-terrain capability for Salzburg's slopes and outdoor sites
Salzburg is a topographically demanding region. Anyone setting up a lift on the southern slope of the Gaisberg, servicing a radio installation on the Moenchsberg, or carrying out repairs on a bridge parapet on the A10 Tauern motorway link needs more than just all-wheel drive on the spec sheet.
Three design features that make the difference on diesel telescopic boom lifts:
-
Permanently active oscillating axle system: The rear axle oscillates independently of the front axle, compensating for uneven ground so all four wheels maintain contact. Standard on the Genie S-85 and S-125.
-
Gradeability of up to 45%: Diesel models in the S- and SX-series handle slopes of up to 45% in transport mode, with the entry-level S-45 handling up to 35%.
-
All-wheel drive and all-wheel steering: Front-axle, rear-axle and coordinated all-wheel steering, plus crab steer, allow manoeuvring on tight set-up areas — relevant on cramped site access in the periphery of Salzburg's Old Town or between hall frontages in industrial parks.
For set-up, the ground must be able to bear the outrigger load. On the large SX-150 and SX-180 machines, with unladen weights over 20 t, soft meadow ground is not sufficient. Steel plates or compacted gravel surfaces are the minimum requirement. A site visit before the rental saves downtime on site.
Safety and standards for rentals in Austria
In Austria, the Equipment Ordinance (AM-VO) governs the operation of aerial work platforms. Every commercially used platform is subject to a recurring inspection under § 8 AM-VO — Luibl handles the inspection intervals and documentation for all rental machines. The hirer receives the current inspection report with the machine.
Operator qualification: Under OENORM EN 280 and ISO 18878, every operator must complete theoretical and practical instruction before first use. The IPAF operator card (PAL Card) is valid EU-wide and meets AUVA requirements. For in-house training, Luibl provides certified trainers on request.
Fall-arrest PPE requirement: On every class 1B/3B aerial work platform in Austria, there is a requirement to anchor personal protective equipment against falls (PPE). Y-lanyards with shock absorbers and full-body harnesses are not part of the rental equipment and must be supplied by the user.
Wind loading: For outdoor use, the permissible wind speed stated in the manufacturer's data sheet is binding. Genie telescopic boom lifts are generally rated up to 12.5 m/s (Beaufort 6). Operation must stop in stronger winds — an operationally relevant point in exposed locations such as the Salzburg basin in the Foehn wind corridor.
Delivery and service across the greater Salzburg area
Luibl operates its own low-loader fleet from a network of over 200 sites across Europe. This removes the dependency on external hauliers, whose lead times for large machines regularly run to several days. In practice: a Genie S-85 can usually be dispatched at short notice in the greater Salzburg area, while a Genie SX-180 requires somewhat more lead time depending on its current location.
Delivery areas in detail: City of Salzburg, Flachgau (Bergheim, Anthering, Hof bei Salzburg, Seekirchen, Wals-Siezenheim, Eugendorf), Tennengau (Hallein, Kuchl, Golling, Abtenau), Pongau (Bischofshofen, St. Johann), Pinzgau (Saalfelden, Zell am See) — as well as across the border into Bavaria (Berchtesgaden, Freilassing) at no extra cost.
Service during the rental period: In the event of technical issues, Luibl sends service technicians directly to the site. For long-term rental contracts of three months or more, the annual safety/AM-VO inspection and servicing are included in the terms.
Rental checklist before you enquire
A technically and commercially sound rental starts with clarifying these points in advance:
-
Required working height in metres, measured from the ground to the highest working position.
-
Side reach – how far does the platform need to reach horizontally from the machine's centre point?
-
Maximum platform load in kg – people plus tools plus materials.
-
Ground conditions – tarmac, gravel, grass, slope; bearing capacity of the set-up area.
-
Clearance heights and widths on the access route and within the site.
-
Tyre requirements – non-marking tyres for indoor and sensitive outdoor use.
-
Rental duration and delivery/collection dates.
-
Operator training – PAL Card already held, or training required?
