If a forklift has to unload outside and store inside, that is a case for gas or diesel with access to the hall, not for an electric forklift on wet gravel. If the route ends above 6.07 m or behind a parapet, use a telehandler.

Check the residual capacity at height

The rated capacity only applies up to a certain lifting height and a certain load centre. The higher you store, the less the pallet may weigh. The value is given on the capacity plate on the machine. So tell us the top rack level and the pallet weight, not just the maximum load.

Clarify centre of gravity, floor and passage before use

With machines the centre of gravity is rarely in the middle. If it is further forward, the permissible load decreases considerably. So send us the dimensions, weight and position of the centre of gravity. Also check whether the hall floor, cellar ceilings and doors can take the weight and width of the forklift. On plant sites, the operator's rules also apply, for example registration, routes and Ex areas.

Who may drive

Under section 7 of DGUV Regulation 68, a forklift with a driver's seat or stand may only be driven by someone who is at least 18 years old, suitable and trained and has received written authorisation from the employer. Training follows DGUV Principle 308-001. At handover we familiarise your drivers with the rental machine; that is not training.
