Rent telehandlers in Erfurt: 64 models from the old town to the surroundings
In Erfurt our telehandlers lift roof tiles onto scaffolding in the Loebervorstadt, precast elements in halls at the Erfurter Kreuz and straw bales on farms in the Thuringian Basin. For this range, 64 models are available, from the fixed machine with 4.30 m lifting height and the roto telehandler with 38.90 m to the heavy-duty machine with 33,000 kg capacity. Which type suits Erfurt usually becomes clear from the urban area: in the old town space is lacking, in the suburbs outreach, in commerce capacity and in the surroundings firm ground. This page therefore works from the inside out. We deliver the chosen model from our location in Passau.
Rent telehandlers in Erfurt: four urban areas, four types
The table assigns to each Erfurt urban area the task that occurs there most frequently and the type that solves it. The values come from the data sheets of our machines.
| Urban area | Frequent task | Type | Rental fleet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old town with Domberg and Petersberg | lifting material over roofs and walls into inner courtyards | roto | 37 models, 15.42–38.90 m lifting height, 4,000–8,000 kg |
| Suburbs and large housing estates | supplying scaffolding, roof structures and floor slabs with material | fixed | 19 models, 4.30–18.80 m, 1,250–5,500 kg |
| Commerce at the Erfurter Kreuz, in the freight village and at the trade fair | placing machines and precast elements, moving material in halls | heavy-duty and electric | 7 models up to 33,000 kg; 1 electric model with 2,500 kg |
| Surroundings in the Thuringian Basin | bulk material, bales and pallets on farms and open areas | fixed with bucket or forks | bucket and other attachments available for rent |
The assignment is a starting point, not a fixed rule. A roto telehandler also works on a large site in a business park, a fixed machine also in a wide old town courtyard. What matters is which value reaches its limit first at the site.
Erfurt old town: roto telehandlers lift over roofs where no crane fits
Many sites in the Erfurt old town lie in inner courtyards behind closed rows of houses. A roto telehandler stands on the street or square in front, sets up its outriggers and slews its superstructure over the roof into the courtyard. In the lanes around Fischmarkt, Wenigemarkt and Michaelisstrasse it thus often takes on the task of a mobile crane that has no space to set up there.
Domberg and Petersberg: outreach instead of access
On the Domberg and at the Petersberg Citadel, steps, embankments and bastion walls separate the set-up position from the destination. The largest roto telehandler in the fleet, the Magni RTH 6.39SH, lifts up to 38.90 m and reaches 27.00 m outreach. What load it carries at which outreach is shown by the load chart: the further the boom extends, the further the capacity drops below the rated load of 6,000 kg. The set-up position must be level and load-bearing, and the outriggers need load-distributing pads on paving.
Dimensions, permit and heritage protection in the old town
The Magni RTH 6.39SH measures 8.60 × 2.54 × 3.12 m and weighs 24,000 kg. So check passages, bends and cellar ceilings on the way to the set-up position. For set-up areas on a street or square you need a special use permit or a traffic order from the city of Erfurt; on listed buildings coordinate the job with the lower heritage protection authority. If no large machine fits through the gateway, the Manitou MT 625e with 1.81 m width moves the material within the courtyard itself.
Suburbs and large housing estates: fixed telehandlers supply refurbishment and loft conversion
Around the old town lie the Gruenderzeit quarters Loebervorstadt, Bruehlervorstadt, Kraempfervorstadt and Andreasvorstadt, further out the large housing estates on the Herrenberg, the Wiesenhuegel, the Roter Berg, in Rieth and at Moskauer Platz. In both areas buildings are being refurbished, extended upwards and insulated. Usually it is about bringing material onto scaffolding or a floor slab.
Gruenderzeit streets: fixed and close to the placing point
A fixed telehandler lifts pallets of bricks, insulation boards or roof battens vertically in front of the facade onto the scaffolding. The Merlo P 40.17 reaches 16.70 m lifting height and 12.50 m outreach and carries up to 4,000 kg. With an operating weight of 10,630 kg it gets into many residential streets. Because the capacity decreases with outreach, position the machine as close as possible to the placing point. Where cars park bumper to bumper, apply to the city for a no-stopping zone for the set-up position.
Prefabricated buildings: roto telehandlers for roof and balcony
On the multi-storey residential blocks, the lifting height of fixed machines often does not reach the roof edge. There roto telehandlers lift roofing membranes, balcony elements or ventilation units over several axes from one set-up position, because they rotate the superstructure instead of repositioning. Clarify access and load-bearing capacity of residential paths and green areas with the housing company. On Erfurt tram routes keep your distance from the overhead line or arrange a shutdown with Erfurter Verkehrsbetriebe (EVAG).
Commerce at the Erfurter Kreuz, in the freight village and at the trade fair: heavy-duty and electric telehandlers
Where halls are built, machines installed or warehouses converted, capacity and drive count more than lifting height.
Heavy-duty up to 33,000 kg for machines and precast elements
Our seven heavy-duty telehandlers lift 7,200 to 33,000 kg to 9.40 to 11.92 m. With them you place precast concrete elements, steel columns or machines in the industrial areas at the Erfurter Kreuz and in the Erfurt freight village. Tell us the weight, dimensions and centre of gravity of the load, because an off-centre centre of gravity reduces the usable capacity. Routes and hall floors must carry the total weight of machine and load.
Electric in halls and on the exhibition grounds
In closed halls and on the Messe Erfurt grounds the Manitou MT 625e works with 5.85 m lifting height, 2,500 kg capacity and 4,800 kg weight. It is 1.81 m wide and 1.92 m high. In operation no exhaust fumes are produced on site. Plan a charging point with a power supply and, on the exhibition grounds, clarify in advance with the organiser which machines are permitted.
Working next to tracks
Erfurt is a hub in the ICE high-speed rail network, and commercial areas and construction sites lie along the railway lines. If a telehandler works in the danger zone of tracks or railway overhead lines, the infrastructure operator's requirements apply. Agree safety lookouts and possession periods there before use.
Surroundings in the Thuringian Basin: telehandlers with bucket and forks for farms and open areas
North of Erfurt the Thuringian Basin opens up with arable farming, agricultural businesses and large open areas. Telehandlers load bulk material there, stack bales and supply construction sites for halls and ground-mounted installations. A fixed machine with bucket or forks usually fits.
Five attachments you can rent with it
-
Bucket for gravel, soil and bulk material
-
Work platform for work on roof and facade; for pure work at height, telescopic boom lifts in Erfurt are often the better choice
-
Load hook for slung components
-
Cable winch when a load is to hang freely and be placed precisely
-
Lattice jib winch for crane-like lifting tasks
Arable land and Gera floodplain: check the ground before use
After rain, arable soils and the floodplain areas on the Gera carry considerably less. A fixed Merlo P 40.17 weighs 10,630 kg, the roto telehandler Merlo Roto 75.25 28,000 kg. For heavy machines, lay track plates or a site road and check the set-up position again after every change in the weather.
Transport to Erfurt: around 420 km from Passau
From our location in Passau it is around 420 km to Erfurt, via the A3 to Nuremberg and on via the A73 and the A71. For delivery, tell us the access route, clearance heights and a level area for unloading. Plan larger jobs early so that machine and transport fit the date. Read more about the process under Transport.
In addition to Erfurt, we deliver to Arnstadt, Weimar, Gotha and Soemmerda and throughout Thuringia. Further city pages nearby are Jena, Leipzig and telehandler rental in Chemnitz. For loads in very confined spaces there is also mini crane rental in Erfurt.
Duties for telehandlers in Erfurt: DGUV Regulation 68 and DGUV Principle 308-009
Anyone driving a telehandler in Erfurt is at least 18 years old, physically and mentally suitable, trained and authorised in writing by the employer (DGUV Regulation 68, section 7).
Training levels under DGUV Principle 308-009
Level 1 covers the fixed telehandler with forks and bucket. Anyone driving a roto telehandler or lifting with load hook and winch in crane mode also needs level 2a. Level 2b is added for the work platform. The familiarisation at handover of the machine does not replace any of these levels.
Risk assessment and instruction at the Erfurt site
Before first use, the employer assesses the hazards under section 3 of the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV), in Erfurt for example pedestrians in the old town, tram overhead lines, proximity to tracks and soft ground in the Gera floodplain. The employer gives instruction on the specific machine under section 12 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG) and section 12 BetrSichV. If your team lacks a level, we put you in touch with a certified training provider free of charge and without obligation, see training via certified partners.
