Hanover is a hub: the exhibition grounds in Laatzen are among the largest in the world – HANNOVER MESSE, IAA Transportation, Agritechnica and Domotex generate hundreds of set-ups and tear-downs every year under extreme time pressure. Added to this are the Continental plant in Stöcken, the Volkswagen commercial-vehicle plant in Stöcken and Hanover-Limmer, the logistics hub on the Mittelland Canal, the Misburg industrial estate and the growing residential quarters in Wasserstadt-Limmer and Kronsberg-Süd.

Each of these applications calls for a different construction machine. Which machine suits which task is decided by a few technical parameters: lifting height or digging depth, load capacity, reach, drive type and ground pressure. On the exhibition grounds, one more factor comes into play: the time window. Set-up and tear-down follow fixed schedules, and every hour of delay costs money.

Renting telehandlers and rotos – fixed and rotating

Telehandlers are the all-purpose machines of the modern construction site. They often replace several specialised machines at once – forklift, crane and work platform in one. In steel and hall construction in Hanover-Stöcken or for industrial installations in Misburg, that is a considerable efficiency lever.

What is available in the rental fleet:

• Fixed telehandlers: lifting heights from 6 m – the smallest in the fleet is the Merlo P 27. Mid-range classes such as the Merlo P 40 or Merlo P 40.14 reach lifting heights of up to 19 m with reaches of up to 14 m. The standard solution for construction logistics and hall assembly. Brands: Manitou, Merlo, JCB.

• Roto telehandlers (rotating): 360° superstructure rotation, lifting heights from 16 m to 35 m, lateral reach of up to 27 m depending on design. With a basket attachment they replace a work platform; with a winch they work as a crane. Popular models: Magni RTH series, Manitou MRT series, Merlo Roto 45.21. Brands: Magni, Manitou, Merlo.

• Heavy-duty telehandlers: load capacities up to 20,000 kg (Manitou MHT 10200) for machine relocations, plant construction and heavy-load logistics – relevant at the Stöcken, Limmer and Misburg industrial sites.

• Electric telehandlers: the emission-free variant for food production, the pharmaceutical industry and all indoor applications with emission requirements.

Roto telehandlers prove their worth especially in concrete construction, industrial plant construction and special civil engineering. With numerous attachments – fork, bucket, load hook, basket, winch, lattice jib – they cover a broad range of tasks.

Work platforms and lifting platforms for Hanover projects

Where loads must not be carried but lifted, work platforms take over the work at height. The rental fleet covers working heights of up to 58 m and lateral reaches of up to 24 m.

The most important designs for Hanover:

• Electric scissor lifts: emission-free, low-noise, with non-marking tyres – ideal for hall maintenance at the large Continental sites and for exhibition construction on the Hanover exhibition grounds.

• Diesel rough-terrain scissor lifts: working heights up to 34 m, load capacity up to 1,000 kg, gradeability up to 45 % – for steel assembly and outdoor work on unpaved ground.

• Telescopic boom lifts and articulating boom lifts: working heights up to 58 m. The articulation point of the articulating lifts allows obstacles to be reached over – often the only practical solution for bridge maintenance on the Mittelland Canal, in industrial halls and for façade work in the city centre.

• Truck-mounted work platforms: quick relocation between several sites, suitable for tree care, advertising-installation maintenance and roof refurbishment in Linden, the Südstadt or List.

• High-rack scissor lifts: special machines with 22 m, 28 m and 33 m working height for modern logistics centres and narrow rack aisles.

Ground pressure, breakout force and tear-out force are the decisive selection criteria for earthmoving machines. For our recommendation we rely on the manufacturers' technical data sheets and match the machine to the ground, excavation volume and site access.

Forklifts and heavy-duty forklifts for logistics and industry

Around the logistics sites on the Mittelland Canal, in Langenhagen near Hanover Airport (HAJ) and at the Stöcken and Misburg industrial sites, a smooth flow of goods is decisive. The rental fleet comprises five forklift categories:

• Diesel forklifts: for purely outdoor applications and heavy loads.

• Electric counterbalance forklifts: emission-free and low-noise for hall applications and cleanroom logistics.

• Gas forklifts: for mixed indoor/outdoor operation with high handling rates.

• Reach trucks: for narrow aisles in logistics centres and high-bay warehouses.

• Heavy-duty forklifts: load capacities up to 18 t with the appropriate attachment – relevant for machine, plant and steel construction in the Hanover region.

Rough-terrain forklifts with an oscillating axle and all-wheel drive are designed for unpaved ground on construction sites. For warehouse logistics in narrow aisles, high lift trucks and electric low lift trucks complete the range.

Cranes for occasional lifting work

For occasional lifting work without a telehandler hybrid solution, the rental fleet carries mobile cranes and mini cranes. Both are used when a telehandler reaches its limits – for example, for precise lifting in confined courtyards or for very high individual loads in industrial assembly.

A rental machine is only as good as its availability on the day of use. Luibl operates its own low-loader fleet and is therefore independent of external hauliers. The journey to Hanover is plannable via the A2 (east–west axis) and the A7 (north–south axis) – Hanover's central location in the German motorway network allows short response times.

Practical example: exhibition construction

During the set-up of an industrial trade fair on the Hanover exhibition grounds, the schedule was extremely tight – delivery of the heavy exhibits on Wednesday, opening on Monday. From the rental fleet, two heavy-duty forklifts with 16 t load capacity each were combined with two electric scissor lifts for the hall installation. The heavy-duty forklifts handled the placement of the machine exhibits, the electric platforms the lighting and stand assembly – emission-free, without noise in the hall. Result: set-up on schedule, no delay.

Service during the rental period

On request, technicians can be deployed on site. Repairs are carried out directly on the construction site wherever possible; where that is not practical, the machine is replaced promptly. For long-term rentals over several months, UVV inspection and annual maintenance are included in the terms.
