Telehandler rental in Straubing: four types for different tasks

Before turning to mistakes, it is worth looking at the four types in the rental fleet. They differ less in lift height than in what they can do with the load.

TypeModelsLift heightLoad capacityTypical task around Straubing
rigid194.30–18.80 m1,250–5,500 kgPallets onto the scaffold, bales and bulk material in farmyards
Roto3715.42–38.90 m4,000–8,000 kgHall and roof installation, loads over parts of buildings
Heavy-duty79.40–11.92 m7,200–33,000 kgMachinery and heavy components in the industrial area
Electric15.85 m2,500 kgHalls and courtyards without exhaust fumes at the work site

The table shows ranges across all models of a type. For specific planning, the load chart of the individual machine always counts. The Roto shows how large the differences within a type are: the Merlo Roto 75.25 lifts 7,500 kg to 25.00 m and reaches 19.50 m, while the Magni RTH 6.39SH goes higher but carries 6,000 kg.

Mistake 1: choosing a telehandler in Straubing by lift height alone

The maximum lift height reveals little about what a telehandler may actually lift at that height. With the telescope extended, the load moves forward and the permissible load capacity drops significantly. One example is the rigid Merlo P 40.17 with 16.70 m lift height, 12.50 m outreach and 4,000 kg load capacity; it only achieves the maximum value with the boom retracted close to the machine.

Reading the load chart

Check three values together: the weight of the heaviest single load, the height of the set-down point and the horizontal distance from the front axle. Only when all three lie within the permissible curve in the load chart does the machine fit. Anyone placing roof trusses on a hall in the industrial park, for example, often needs more outreach than height.

Allow for a reserve

Slinging equipment and attachment are part of the load. A fork, hook or platform brings its own weight, which is deducted from the available load capacity. Anyone who plans close to the limit has no room for manoeuvre left on the construction site.

Mistake 2: the wrong type for farmyard, hall or old town

Rigid for farmyards and open construction sites

Where the loader can drive freely up to the load, the rigid type is usually the most economical. It is lighter than a Roto, does not need outriggers for every lift and works with forks or bucket. In farmyards in the Gaeuboden and when supplying a scaffold on a new build, it is sufficient in many cases, as long as no load has to be placed over an obstacle.

Roto instead of a mobile crane in the old town

In Straubing's old town with its approximately 800 m long Stadtplatz, construction sites can often only be reached from the street. A Roto telehandler slews its superstructure and sets down loads over parts of buildings without the machine having to reposition. The Magni RTH 6.39SH reaches 38.90 m lift height and 27.00 m outreach at 6,000 kg load capacity. It measures 8.60 × 2.54 × 3.12 m and weighs 24,000 kg; for set-up on public ground you need a special use permit from the city.

Heavy-duty for very heavy components

When machine parts or steel beams are moved, a rigid loader quickly reaches its limit. The seven heavy-duty models carry 7,200 to 33,000 kg. At the Straubing-Sand port there is a dedicated heavy-load platform on the south quay for heavy goods; what applies to vehicles there is determined by the port operator.

Electric for halls and courtyards

At 1.81 m wide, the Manitou MT 625e is narrow enough for many doors and works without exhaust fumes at the work site. It lifts 2,500 kg to 5.85 m and weighs 4,800 kg, which also suits hall floors with limited load-bearing capacity.

Mistake 3: underestimating the ground in the Gaeuboden and on the Danube

Telehandlers are heavy, and when lifting, their weight is concentrated on the front axle or the outriggers. In the rental fleet, the unladen weight ranges from 4,800 kg for the MT 625e through 10,630 kg for the Merlo P 40.17 to 28,000 kg for the Merlo Roto 75.25, the heaviest Roto.

Loess soil in farmyards and construction fields

The Gaeuboden is considered Bavaria's granary; its loess layer is up to six metres thick. For arable farming this is an advantage, for heavy machinery after rain less so: the ground softens, wheels sink in, outriggers need larger pads. Plan paved routes or load distribution plates on farmyard areas and field access roads.

Areas close to the Danube

Straubing was affected by the floods of 2002 and 2013. After high water levels, the ground near the riverbank often remains saturated for a long time. Check the load-bearing capacity before the job and, if in doubt, switch to a paved set-up area or a lighter model.

Paved surfaces also have limits. Cellar ceilings, shaft covers and freshly backfilled utility trenches in yard entrances often carry less than they appear to. Have such spots marked and place sufficiently large pads under the outriggers of Roto machines.

Mistake 4: forgetting the attachment for the telehandler in Straubing

A telehandler without a suitable tool remains a fork carrier. Order the attachment at the same time, because it also determines which additional qualification the driver needs.

  • Bucket: moving bulk material, seed or excavated soil in farmyards in the Gaeuboden.

  • Work platform: bringing people to height, for example for work on gutters; this requires additional level 2b.

  • Load hook: moving components on slinging equipment, i.e. crane operation with additional level 2a.

  • Cable winch: lifting and lowering loads in a controlled manner, likewise crane operation.

  • Lattice jib winch: installations over roof edges, here too with additional level 2a.

For longer jobs in which only people work at height, a telescopic boom lift is often the more suitable machine. Conversely, the telehandler is worthwhile when material and people alternately need to go up on the same construction site and one machine is to handle both tasks.

Mistake 5: using telehandlers in Straubing without the right qualification

Basis under DGUV Vorschrift 68

According to § 7 of DGUV Vorschrift 68, only persons who are at least 18 years old, suitable and trained, and who have been commissioned in writing by the employer may drive. Training is based on DGUV Grundsatz 308-009.

Levels 1, 2a and 2b

Level 1 covers the rigid telehandler. Anyone driving a Roto or working in crane operation with a load hook and winch additionally needs additional level 2a; for the work platform, additional level 2b applies. If it is missing, the attachment may not be used, even if it is already on the construction site.

Therefore check your drivers' certificates before the delivery date and not only at handover. Especially when subcontractors or temporary staff operate the loader, the written commission or the additional level for the ordered attachment is often missing.

As the operator, you provide instruction in accordance with § 12 ArbSchG and § 12 BetrSichV and keep the risk assessment in accordance with § 3 BetrSichV up to date. If your team lacks a level, we will put you in touch with a certified training provider; more details under training via certified partners.

Telehandlers from Passau to Straubing and the surrounding area

From Passau it is around 80 km via the A3 to Straubing. The large Roto models travel on the low-loader and need a load-bearing unloading point at the destination with enough space to drive off. For farmsteads in the Gaeuboden, it is worth checking access, clearance heights and gateways in advance. How we deliver machines is described on the page Transports.

In addition to Straubing, we supply the surrounding area, including Regensburg, Cham, Landau an der Isar, Plattling and Deggendorf, where there is also a page on telehandlers in Deggendorf. Smaller municipalities such as Bogen, Parkstetten or Atting are also part of the delivery area.

Frequently asked questions about renting telehandlers in Straubing

chevronDown

How high do your telehandlers lift in Straubing?

Up to 38.90 m. The maximum is reached by the rotating Magni RTH 6.39SH; the fixed models reach up to 18.80 m. What matters, however, is not the maximum height but what the load chart permits at your outreach. For hall assembly in the industrial park, outreach often counts for more than lift height.

Can a rotating telehandler replace a crane in Straubing's old town?

Yes, for many lifting jobs. The rotating superstructure sets loads down over parts of buildings without the machine having to reposition. Prerequisites are a sufficiently large set-up area, a special use permit from the city for public ground and a driver with additional level 2a under DGUV Grundsatz 308-009.

Which telehandler is suitable for farms in the Gaeuboden near Straubing?

Usually a fixed telehandler. The 19 fixed models lift 1,250 to 5,500 kg and work with forks or bucket. Because the loess soil becomes soft after rain, yard areas and access routes should be paved. On damp ground, a lighter model is often the safer choice than a large one.

Which attachments can I rent with the telehandler in Straubing?

Five: bucket, work platform, lifting hook, cable winch and lattice boom winch. Order the attachment together with the telehandler, as it affects the required qualification. For lifting hooks and winches, the driver needs additional level 2a; for the work platform, additional level 2b. The bucket is particularly suitable for bulk material on farms in the Gaeuboden.

What must a driver prove to operate a telehandler in Straubing?

He must be at least 18 years old, suitable, trained in accordance with DGUV Grundsatz 308-009 and assigned in writing, as required by § 7 of DGUV Vorschrift 68. Depending on the type and attachment, additional levels 2a or 2b are added. Luibl does not provide training itself, but offers free information about certified partners.
