Rent access platforms and construction machinery in Ruzomberok

In Ruzomberok a single date sets the pace: the scheduled turnaround. Access platforms and construction machinery are not rented here for a building site that can be postponed, but for a shutdown window in which a pulp and paper mill — the largest single site of this industry in Slovakia — is worked on by many trades at the same time. Whatever is not completed within this window waits for the next turnaround.

Turnaround planning: many trades, one tight window

A plant turnaround differs from building construction in three respects. The window is fixed and short. The trades work simultaneously in a confined space, not one after another. And the requirement is not one class but a combination — a scissor lift for area work beneath the ceiling, an articulated boom lift for outreach, a telehandler for material handling, plus the compact class for awkward areas.

It therefore makes sense to plan the entire requirement as a single rental covering the window plus buffer days, instead of ordering each class separately. The machines are then on site and inspected before the shutdown starts, and the first working day begins with work rather than logistics. Because several trades need the same set-up areas at once, a set-up area plan belongs in the preparation — along with a reserve, because every turnaround turns up unexpected findings.

Boilers, digesters, pipe racks: plan height and platform capacity together

Plant equipment of this size is tall, intricate and hard to reach. On boilers, digesters, pipe racks and filter systems the working point is often far above the highest accessible platform, and the machine can rarely be positioned directly underneath.

For working height alone, telescopic boom lifts from 14.00 to 56.90 m are the class with the greatest reach in the rental fleet. Where work has to be carried out across plant components, articulated boom lifts from 10.89 to 48.15 m are the right choice — the diesel version outdoors, the electric version inside the halls.

Most often, however, turnaround planning has to be corrected on platform capacity. Two fitters with tools, measuring equipment and a component quickly exceed 250 kg — and the further the boom is extended, the lower the permissible load. Where weight and platform area matter more than outreach, the answer is the scissor lift: the diesel version from 9.70 to 34.00 m carries up to 1,134 kg, the electric version covers 6.30 to 33.00 m with zero emissions. In tight plant rooms the mast lift from 10.00 to 12.65 m remains the class that can get there.

Narrow valley, narrow access: the location on the Vah

Ruzomberok lies in the valley of the Vah on the edge of the Low Tatras, and this location has a direct effect on planning. The industrial area is hemmed in between the river, the railway line and the slopes; access roads are narrow and large set-up areas are the exception. Three dimensions should be clarified before delivery: clear width and height of the access route, load-bearing capacity of roads and bridge structures, and the manoeuvring area at the unloading point. If a machine cannot reach the working point, the spider lift from 13.00 to 39.50 m is the design of choice. Add to that the weather: frost, wet conditions and short daylight hours in the winter months change stability, set-up times and the number of usable hours per day.

Telehandlers, excavators and forklifts for Ruzomberok

For material handling during a shutdown, the telehandler replaces the crane that is unavailable or is itself being serviced. Rotating telehandlers from 15.42 to 38.90 m and 4 to 8 t are the strongest card on a confined plant site, because they work all round from a single set-up position; fixed-frame models cover 4.30 to 18.80 m at 1.25 to 25 t, electric models from 5.85 to 30.00 m cover work inside the halls.

Excavators from 1.8 to 30 t operating weight handle foundation, pipeline and demolition work. In addition, counterbalance forklifts from 3 to 16 t, heavy-duty forklifts and cranes are available.

Documentation and responsibilities during a shutdown

During a turnaround the plant operator checks the documentation of every machine before it is allowed onto the site — and in Slovakia this paperwork is more extensive than contractors from Germany expect. The reason is the classification: under the Vyhlaska MPSVR SR 508/2009 Z. z., a pojazdna pracovna plosina with a motor drive and a lifting height of more than 1.5 m counts as a zdvihacie technicke zariadenie skupiny A and therefore as a vyhradene technicke zariadenie, subject to official inspections — uradne skusky as well as opakovane uradne skusky. NV SR 392/2006 Z. z., Zakon 124/2006 Z. z. and STN EN 280 apply in addition.

The division of responsibilities is clear. We provide the inspection certificate, CE documentation and operating manual for every machine — individually for each unit where several classes are involved. Access authorisation, work permits, risk assessment, coordination of the trades as well as the qualification and instruction of the operators lie with the plant operator and the company carrying out the work; the same applies to the check before work starts in shift operation, that is before every shift.

Transport to Ruzomberok

From Passau it is around 560 km to Ruzomberok, the final stretch running along the Vah via Zilina and Martin; assignments at these locations can be planned into the same run. The delivery date is governed by the start of the shutdown, not by the first working day on the component. Tell us the window and the list of working points, and we will put the combination together and bundle the deliveries; for the duration of the window plus buffer we invoice at long-term rental rates.

Frequently asked questions in Ruzomberok

chevronDown

How do we plan our machine requirements for a shutdown overhaul?

Ideally as one rental covering the entire shutdown window plus buffer days, not as individual orders per trade. First record every work point with its height, outreach and platform load, assign an equipment class to each and group similar points together. A layout plan for the set-up areas prevents the trades from blocking one another.

What does winter weather change about shutdown planning?

In the valley setting on the edge of the Low Tatras, frost, wet conditions and short daylight hours have to be expected during the winter half of the year. This affects stability, set-up times and the number of usable working hours per day. A frozen surface can lose considerable load-bearing capacity as it thaws - assessing the ground therefore belongs in the daily inspection.

How does a large machine get onto a confined plant site in the Vah valley?

By establishing the dimensions beforehand: clear width and height of the access route, load-bearing capacity of roads and bridge structures, manoeuvring space at the unloading point. If a self-propelled machine cannot reach the work point, the tracked boom lift with 13.00 to 39.50 m is the suitable design.

What do we use to reach pipe racks and boiler areas at great height?

For height alone, the telescopic boom lift with 14.00 to 56.90 m. If you have to work over plant components or around an obstacle, the articulated telescopic boom lift with 10.89 to 48.15 m is the right choice. The decisive factor is the horizontal distance between the permissible set-up area and the work point; on plants with many internal structures it turns out to be greater than assumed.

What platform load do two fitters with tools require?

Add up personnel, tools, measuring equipment and components; two fitters with their equipment frequently come to more than 250 kg. The permissible platform load decreases as outreach increases - the maximum figures in the table do not apply in every boom position. Where weight and working area matter more than reach, a scissor lift is the better choice.
