This assignment is a starting point. Which machine ultimately fits depends on load, ground and rental period. If you want to cover several phases, such as harvest followed by warehouse work, it is better to rent two suitable machines one after the other rather than overtax one machine for both.

The harvest phase is short and can only be roughly predicted because it depends on the weather. Enquire early and agree a rental period with some buffer rather than relying on a fixed day. For the farm storage hall where pallets are stacked, an electric forklift can also be useful.

The Gaeubodenvolksfest takes place every August, is timed around the Feast of the Assumption and lasts ten days. On the Am Hagen festival grounds there are seven beer tents with a combined total of around 27,000 seats, and the Ostbayernschau runs in parallel. Before the opening and after the last festival day, tent fittings, benches, cooling equipment and drinks have to be moved.

Access permission and time windows

The organiser decides which vehicles may enter the grounds and when. Clarify this with your client before booking a forklift. Because the festival dates are fixed, you should enquire early about equipment for set-up and dismantling.

Type for tents and exhibition areas

Outdoors on paved ground, a diesel forklift is the usual choice. In the tents and halls of the Ostbayernschau, an electric forklift is the obvious option because it produces no exhaust at the point of use. LPG is only an option in enclosed areas if the risk assessment permits it.

Exhibitors at the Ostbayernschau often deliver exhibits, stand components and goods on pallets. Anyone looking after several stands works more independently with their own rental forklift than with a shared machine. The Straubing-Sand port went into operation in 1996 and lies on the right bank of the Danube in the industrial park of the same name. The south quay has a heavy-load platform measuring 60 × 17.5 m. Diesel on the quay, electric in the hall

On the quay and in open storage areas, a diesel forklift is usually used. In the halls of the industrial park, electric is the usual choice, with capacities up to 10,000 kg also for heavy pallets and mesh boxes.

The port is also connected to the railway via the Straubing–Miltach line. Anyone transferring goods between ship, rail wagon and truck needs a forklift that drives as safely on the quay surface as at the loading ramp. Here, a diesel forklift with sufficient residual capacity for the heaviest unit is the usual solution.

When there is less to do on farms and construction sites, forklift demand shifts to warehouses and production halls. If a load has to go higher or over an edge, for example onto an intermediate roof, a telehandler is the right machine. Before ordering, also check the height of the retracted mast, because in older halls doors and beams are often more restrictive than the desired lift height.

From Passau it is around 80 km via the A3 to Straubing. All forklifts arrive by low-loader, and heavy-duty models need particularly ample space for unloading. Duties of the operator

As the employer, you provide instruction in accordance with § 12 ArbSchG and § 12 BetrSichV, especially for temporary staff during harvest or festival set-up.
