Rent aerial lifts and forklifts in Messina – work platforms and telehandlers

Aerial lifts, forklifts and telehandlers for Messina are available for rent from Luibl Rental; we deliver them with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site. Messina has just over 200,000 inhabitants and stretches as a narrow band between the Peloritani mountains and the strait that separates Sicily from the mainland. For equipment selection, this means: little space to set up, many hillside locations and a cityscape that was almost entirely rebuilt after the 1908 earthquake. On this page you will learn which machine suits which task in Messina, which obligations Italian law places on you as the hirer and how delivery works.

Messina's location on the strait determines which lifting equipment is in demand

Hardly any Italian city is so strongly shaped by its geography. Three conditions directly affect your equipment rental.

First, ferry traffic. Messina is the most important crossing between Sicily and Calabria: passenger and car ferries shuttle to Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria, and trucks also use the landing at Tremestieri in the south. Terminals, ramps, canopies and lighting at the port facilities constantly require maintenance work at height.

Second, the buildings. After the 1908 earthquake, a right-angled grid of streets with wide axes and rather low buildings was laid out; later, reinforced-concrete residential tower blocks were added on the slopes. Many of these buildings now need new facades, balconies and roof waterproofing.

Third, the terrain. Behind the coastal road, the districts rise steeply, access roads are often narrow and support surfaces sloped. Machines with a compact footprint and good off-road capability are therefore in particularly high demand here.

In addition, there are large public institutions such as the university and the university hospital, as well as industry in the hinterland: on the Tyrrhenian coast lie the refinery and port of Milazzo and the Giammoro industrial area.

Aerial work platforms for Messina: from hillside facades to ferry halls

We recommend the platform based on the construction task. The following matches have proven themselves in Messina.

  • Residential building on a slope: If the platform stands on a sloping street in front of a multi-storey building, articulated boom lifts are the tool of choice. They set up on a small footprint, and the jib reaches over balconies and canopies to heights of more than 35 m.

  • Port terminal and hall roof: For tall structures with clear space in front, such as ferry terminals or warehouses in Tremestieri, telescopic boom lifts offer the greatest reach.

  • Lecture hall, hospital corridor, sales floor: On level indoor floors, scissor lifts work electrically at heights between 8 and 18 m and without exhaust emissions at the job site, which matters in clinics and university buildings.

  • Church, shop, stairwell: Where only a standard door is available, for example in the cathedral with its bell tower or in small shops on Via Garibaldi, mast lifts fit.

The platforms in our fleet come mainly from Haulotte and Genie. Every machine leaves the workshop serviced to the manufacturer's specifications.

Moving loads safely in Messina with forklifts and telehandlers

We also have suitable equipment for material flow and warehousing in Messina.

Our forklifts are available as electric forklifts for warehouses and supermarkets, as diesel machines for port areas and building materials yards, and as rough-terrain forklifts for unpaved areas in the hinterland, for example in the industrial zones on the Tyrrhenian coast.

On construction sites with little room for a crane, telehandlers are often the better solution. They stand on the street, lift the pallet and push it over the pavement onto the floor slab. With the Manitou MT 730 H you can move up to 3,000 kg to 6.90 m. Further telehandlers are supplied by Manitou, Merlo and Magni.

Whether a few days or the entire construction phase: you decide the rental period. For combined jobs, you receive the platform and handling equipment in one quote.

Renting in Messina means clearly allocated obligations under Italian law

The decisive regulation for every rented machine in Messina is D.Lgs. 81/2008 (Testo unico), whose Titolo III covers work equipment. The obligations can be summarized in four points.

  1. The operator needs the qualification (abilitazione) under the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025 for mobile elevating work platforms (PLE) and for ride-on forklifts, as required by Article 73 paragraph 5. An IPAF card is welcome, but only as additional proof.

  2. The employer also gives its staff targeted instruction for the machine and workplace (formazione e addestramento under Article 73 paragraph 4).

  3. The machine itself, as an aerial work platform or telehandler, is subject to an annual verifica periodica under Allegato VII; the first of these inspections is carried out by INAIL.

  4. We as the rental company certify, for noleggio senza operatore under Article 72 paragraph 2, the good state of preservation, maintenance and safety of the machine at handover. At the same time, we obtain your self-declaration that your operators are trained and keep it during the rental period.

At handover, we show your team the control panel, emergency lowering and safety functions (istruzioni all'uso). We do not provide personnel to operate the machines.

Delivery in Messina is made with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site

We organize transport ourselves: with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site, from the port area and residential streets on the slopes to the industrial zones of the province. In Messina in particular, advance planning pays off, because just a few meters of gradient or a tight bend decide whether a low-loader can drive right up to the building or whether a smaller, self-propelled machine covers the last stretch. We agree access, gradient, turning space and unloading area with you. Do you also work in Catania, Palermo or on the other side of the strait towards Naples? Then contact us for these jobs as well.

Which platform design is suitable for your project is explained on Rent an aerial lift – all platform types at a glance, covering scissor, articulated boom, telescopic boom, mast, tracked and truck-mounted platforms and the criteria that determine the rental price.
