Rent aerial work platforms, telehandlers and forklifts in Trieste
For port operators, industry and construction companies in Trieste, Luibl Rental has aerial work platforms, telehandlers and forklifts available for rent; we handle transport with our own low-loaders. Two features of the city influence equipment selection more than elsewhere in Italy: the steep slopes between the Karst and the sea, and the bora, a cold downslope wind that sweeps across the gulf in strong gusts. If you plan for both, you can work safely in Trieste without unnecessary downtime. Here you will find the right machines, the legal framework in Italy and how delivery works.
The port shapes Trieste – and with it the demand for handling equipment
With around 200,000 inhabitants, Trieste is the capital of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and has one of the most important seaports on the Adriatic. The deep fairway accommodates large ships, the port has free port zones and is closely linked to the rail network. The Transalpine Pipeline, which supplies refineries north of the Alps, starts at the oil terminal in the south of the bay; there are also container, ro-ro and general cargo terminals.
Most of the demand for rental equipment arises from this cargo handling:
- Freight forwarders and warehouse operators in the port and industrial area need forklifts for pallets, crates and coils, as electric or diesel machines depending on the area.
- Maintenance companies work on warehouses, silos and crane runways and use platforms with long reach for this.
- For general cargo on unpaved areas or at construction sites on the quay, telehandlers offer more flexibility than a conventional forklift.
In addition, there are industrial companies in the south of the city, the shipyard location in nearby Monfalcone, as well as coffee roasters and logistics companies, for whom Trieste has always been a hub for green coffee.
Besides the port and industry, Trieste is an administrative and scientific center: insurance groups have their headquarters here, and research institutes work on the Karst and in Miramare. Building services, glass facades and laboratory buildings of these institutions are continuously maintained and modernized – typical tasks for aerial work platforms, which we classify by weather conditions in the next section.
In a bora, the wind limit of the aerial work platform is decisive in Trieste
Every aerial work platform has a maximum permissible wind speed set by the manufacturer; if it is exceeded, the basket must be lowered. In Trieste, this limit is quickly reached during bora conditions, as gusts of well over 100 km/h are not uncommon there. Therefore, plan work at great heights with buffer time where possible and keep an eye on the weather forecast.
For equipment selection, this means:
- For indoor work in halls, warehouses and terminal buildings, electric scissor lifts can be used regardless of the wind and work without exhaust emissions at the job site.
- For facades, crane runways and silos outdoors, telescopic boom lifts and articulated boom lifts are suitable. We advise you on which model fits your height and reach and tell you the permissible wind speed according to the manufacturer.
- In narrow courtyards and offices in the old town, for example in the Borgo Teresiano, mast lifts that fit through standard doors help.
Our aerial work platforms come mainly from Haulotte and Genie and are serviced according to the manufacturer's schedule before every rental.
Telehandlers work reliably on Trieste's hillsides
A large part of the city climbs steeply from the shore up the slope to the Karst plateau. Many construction sites are located on narrow, rising streets, and material often has to be lifted over retaining walls or differences in level. Four-wheel-drive telehandlers handle these situations better than forklifts: with an extendable telescopic boom, they overcome walls and terrain steps and set pallets down exactly where they are needed.
For most construction projects, a machine like the Manitou MT 730 H is sufficient, carrying 3,000 kg and reaching a lift height of 6.90 m. For larger loads and heights, we offer models from Merlo and Magni.
Telehandlers are also in demand on the Karst itself, for example around the AREA Science Park or in business parks on the plateau. A practical tip: check before delivery whether the access road is passable for the low-loader – we are happy to help with the assessment.
Italian safety regulations apply to rental equipment in Trieste
Because Trieste is in Italy, D.Lgs. 81/2008 (Testo unico sulla salute e sicurezza sul lavoro), with Title III on work equipment, is decisive for every job. For you as the hirer, this first of all means: aerial work platforms (PLE) and ride-on forklifts may only be controlled by persons holding an operator qualification (abilitazione) under the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025 (art. 73 c. 5). An IPAF certificate can supplement this qualification, but cannot replace it.
Irrespective of this, art. 73 c. 4 obliges the employer to instruct its operators appropriately and on the specific machine (formazione e addestramento).
As the rental company, we assume the obligations under art. 72 c. 2 for rental without an operator: at handover, we certify the proper, safe condition of the machine and obtain your self-declaration on operator training, which we keep for the entire rental period. An annual periodic inspection (verifica periodica) under Annex VII is also mandatory for aerial work platforms and telehandlers; the first is carried out by INAIL. At handover, we familiarize your team with the machine; we do not provide operating personnel.
Delivery to Trieste – with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site
Whether port area, industrial zone in the south, hillside construction site or commercial area on the Karst: we deliver with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site. Because of the steep and narrow streets in the city, we always discuss access and unloading area with you in advance. Helpful are a photo of the access route, details of gradients and bends, and of the area where the low-loader can stop. In the port, we also coordinate access rules and contact persons at the terminal with you so that handover runs smoothly. If you have further projects in the northeast, we also deliver to Venice or Padua.
