Rent Aerial Work Platforms and Forklifts in Bologna

Anyone fitting out an exhibition hall, installing a packaging line or running a logistics warehouse in Bologna can rent the right lifting equipment from Luibl Rental: aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers, delivered directly to the site with our own low-loader fleet. The capital of Emilia-Romagna has around 390,000 inhabitants and lies at the most important motorway junction in northern Italy, where the A1, A13 and A14 meet. Industry, trade fairs and freight traffic therefore generate demand all year round – often with tight set-up windows and changing sites. This page matches the machines to typical tasks in Bologna, summarises the Italian regulations for operators and describes the process from enquiry to return.

Bologna combines mechanical engineering, trade fairs and logistics – this creates the demand for equipment

Four focal points of Bologna's economy explain what companies here rent lifting equipment for.

Packaging and vehicle industry. Well-known manufacturers of packaging machinery are based around the city, such as IMA in Ozzano dell'Emilia, G.D in Bologna and Marchesini in Pianoro. There are also Ducati in Borgo Panigale and Lamborghini in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Their plants and suppliers have new hall construction, line conversions and maintenance on the agenda.

BolognaFiere exhibition centre. Trade fairs such as Cersaie for ceramics and bathrooms, EIMA for agricultural machinery or Cosmoprof fill the halls in the north of the city. Stand builders need platforms for trusses, lighting and banners as well as forklifts for exhibits – within short set-up and dismantling times.

Freight transport and wholesale. The Interporto Bologna near Bentivoglio, the Centergross wholesale centre in Funo di Argelato and the commercial areas at the airport in Calderara di Reno live from handling. Electric forklifts and scissor lifts are in continuous operation here.

Urban redevelopment and research. The tram line currently being built through the city, the data centre at the Tecnopolo and the renovation of the historic centre with its brick buildings and arcades generate construction projects of all sizes.

Which aerial work platform in Bologna suits which building

Building styles in Bologna range from medieval towers and brick palazzi with arcades to large steel halls. The choice of platform depends on this:

  1. Halls in production and logistics: Smooth industrial floors, lots of space, work on ceilings and racks – this is the domain of scissor lifts. With electric drive, they work without exhaust at the point of use and are therefore also suitable for the exhibition halls.

  2. Arcades and covered walkways: The portici, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021, cover many pavements in the city centre. Anyone painting facades above the arches or replacing gutters has to work over the canopy. Articulated boom lifts use their jib to place the basket behind the edge.

  3. Towers, churches and high facades: For great working heights with wide outreach, for example on bell towers or new buildings along the Tangenziale, telescopic boom lifts are the right choice.

  4. Interiors and shops: Under low vaults and in shops on Via dell'Indipendenza, mast lifts help, as they fit through standard doors and take up little space.

Our platforms come mainly from Haulotte and Genie. Before delivery, we service every machine according to the manufacturer's schedule.

Italian law in Bologna: abilitazione, instruction and annual inspection

For rented work equipment in Bologna, the Testo unico on occupational safety (D.Lgs. 81/2008), Titolo III, applies. This results in a clear division of tasks between you as the hirer and us as the rental company.

Your side: anyone operating a mobile elevating work platform (PLE) or a ride-on forklift needs the abilitazione under art. 73 c. 5, the training for which is laid down in the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025. This qualification does not release the employer from its own obligation to instruct and practically train employees on the specific machine (formazione e addestramento, art. 73 c. 4). You can keep IPAF cards as additional proof, but they do not replace the abilitazione.

Our side: for rental without operator, we confirm in accordance with art. 72 c. 2 at handover that the machine is in proper condition and accept your self-declaration on the training of the intended operators (dichiarazione autocertificativa). In addition, the annual verifica periodica under Allegato VII applies to aerial work platforms and telehandlers, with the first inspection carried out by INAIL.

Operating personnel are not part of our offer; the machines are operated by your own qualified employees.

Forklifts and telehandlers in Bologna for the Interporto, workshops and construction sites

In material flow, jobs in Bologna differ mainly in terms of ground conditions. In the halls of the Interporto or in a machine builder's spare parts warehouse, electric forklifts run on level floors; on open storage areas and construction sites on the outskirts, diesel and rough-terrain forklifts take over. For trade fair set-ups with heavy exhibits, a counterbalance forklift combined with a scissor lift is a good option. In cold stores and food warehouses, for example at the CAAB wholesale market in the north-east of the city, electric forklifts with non-marking tyres are the usual choice.

Telehandlers are in demand as soon as loads not only have to be lifted but also moved forwards: insulation onto a hall roof, precast elements into an upper floor or big bags on a farm in the Bologna plain. The rental fleet includes fixed and rotating models from Manitou, Merlo and Magni. Many of them have a heated or air-conditioned cab, which makes work easier in the damp winter cold and summer heat of the Po valley.

Rental in Bologna – from enquiry to return in four steps

This is how an order in Bologna works:

  • Enquiry: You tell us the site, working height or load, ground and period.
  • Quote: We propose a machine and clarify access and unloading area – at the exhibition centre as well as in the traffic-calmed old town.
  • Delivery and handover: We come directly to your site with our own low-loader fleet and explain operation, emergency lowering and safety functions to your team.
  • Return: We collect the machine again on the agreed date.

For trade fair set-ups at BolognaFiere, we align delivery and collection with the organiser's set-up and dismantling days. If a construction phase is extended, the rental period can be adjusted by arrangement. If you have other construction sites in northern and central Italy, we supply you in the same way in Florence, Padua and Verona.

A comparison of all designs – from scissor to truck-mounted platforms – together with the factors that influence the rental price can be found under Lifting platform rental – all platform types at a glance.

Frequently asked questions about renting aerial work platforms and forklifts in Bologna

chevronDown

How much does it cost to rent an aerial work platform in Bologna?

That depends on the platform type, working height, rental period and job site. An electric scissor lift for a trade fair stand costs less than a telescopic boom lift for a church facade. With your key details, we will prepare a specific quote for you.

Does Luibl Rental deliver machines directly to Bologna?

Yes. Our own low-loaders bring the machine to your job site, whether a factory hall, the Interporto, the exhibition grounds or a construction site in the old town. We agree the unloading point and date with you in advance.

Who is allowed to operate aerial work platforms and forklifts in Italy?

Anyone holding the abilitazione under art. 73 c. 5 of D.Lgs. 81/2008 may operate them; the training is governed by the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025. The employer must additionally instruct its people on the machine. IPAF only counts as supplementary proof. We provide instruction at handover but do not rent out operators.

Is long-term rental also possible in Bologna?

Yes. For plant conversions, logistics centres or construction projects lasting several months, we also rent out aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers on a long-term basis and, on request, combine several machines in one contract.

Which machines are suitable for trade fair set-up at BolognaFiere?

Usually a combination of an electric scissor lift for trusses and lighting and a forklift for exhibits and stand material. Both machines work in the hall with no exhaust emissions at the job site. Tell us the hall, stand size and set-up period, and we will put together a package.
