Rent aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers in Genoa
For construction sites, shipyards, terminals and warehouses in Genoa, Luibl Rental hires out aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers – and brings every machine directly to the job site with its own low-loader fleet. The Ligurian capital, with around 560,000 inhabitants, stretches along the coast as a narrow strip between the sea and the Apennines. Steep slopes, winding old-town alleys and a port that occupies large parts of the waterfront call for different machines than an industrial city on the plains. Below we show which machine suits which job in Genoa, how we organize delivery and which obligations Italian law places on equipment owners and operators.
Genoa: port, shipyards and plant engineering drive demand for lifting equipment
Five economic sectors shape demand for rental machines in Genoa:
-
Port and terminals: The Port of Genoa is one of the largest in Italy. Container terminals at Pra'-Voltri and in the Sampierdarena basin, plus ferry and cruise piers, need forklifts for general cargo and telescopic boom lifts for work on hall roofs, light masts and crane runways.
-
Shipbuilding and shipyards: In Sestri Ponente, Fincantieri builds cruise ships, while repair yards and yacht builders work in the harbor basin. Articulated boom lifts with long outreach are used on hulls, superstructures and docks.
-
Energy and rail technology: Ansaldo Energia manufactures turbines and generators in Genoa, and Hitachi Rail and Leonardo operate sites in the city. Factory halls in Campi, Cornigliano and Sestri need scissor lifts for building services and forklifts for in-plant transport.
-
Major infrastructure projects: The new breakwater (nuova diga foranea) and the Terzo Valico dei Giovi railway line towards Milan tie construction companies to the region for years.
-
Campus and older buildings: A technology and university hub is growing on the Erzelli hill, while residential and commercial buildings are continuously refurbished from the Centro Storico to Albaro and Nervi.
Hillsides and old-town alleys in Genoa – the set-up position determines the aerial work platform
In Genoa, it is often the ground, not just the working height, that determines which platform you need. Typical cases break down as follows:
-
Facades in the Centro Storico: The medieval alleys (caruggi) are narrow, but the houses are tall. Specialist firms therefore usually restore painted facades and Ligurian slate roofs from squares or courtyards – with compact articulated boom lifts whose jib reaches over cornices and balconies.
-
Hillside streets in Castelletto, Oregina or Quarto: Here the machine rarely stands level. Tracked aerial platforms with their own outriggers compensate for slopes and fit through narrow gates; all-terrain telescopic boom lifts reach retaining walls and terraces via unpaved access roads.
-
Quayside and dry dock: For great heights on ships, silos or harbor cranes, telescopic boom lifts with a long boom are the right choice. Because the wind from the sea can pick up strongly here, the manufacturer's maximum permissible wind speed stated on every platform applies.
-
Factory halls and warehouses: On the level hall floors in Bolzaneto or Campi, electric scissor lifts are sufficient – with no exhaust emissions at the job site and a large platform for cables, lights and sprinklers.
-
Shops, offices and stairwells: Where a machine has to fit through a standard door, you work with mast lifts on the smallest footprint.
The platforms in our rental fleet come mainly from Haulotte and Genie and are serviced to the manufacturer's specifications before every rental.
Forklifts and telehandlers in Genoa – from the quayside to the hillside construction site
In Genoa, you move loads with two complementary groups of equipment. Forklifts handle pallets and crates in the warehouse: electric models for enclosed halls, for example in the wholesale market and logistics area of Bolzaneto, diesel machines for open areas at the port and rough-terrain forklifts for gravel yards or construction sites without a firm surface.
Telehandlers show their strength where a crane would be too costly. On a hillside construction site, they lift pallets of bricks or insulation forward onto the floor slab without a vehicle having to stand directly beneath the building. One example is the Manitou MT 730 H with 3,000 kg lifting capacity and 6.90 m lift height. We also carry telehandlers from Manitou, Merlo and Magni – fixed or as a Roto version with a rotating superstructure.
You can rent for a single day of warehouse stocktaking or for the entire shell construction phase of a residential building in Albaro. If you need a platform and a load handler at the same time, we combine both in one quote.
Delivery in Genoa – with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site
We transport the machines ourselves: with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site, whether a shipyard in Sestri Ponente, a new build in Valbisagno or a hall on the A7 motorway. In Genoa in particular, careful advance planning pays off. We discuss access, gradients, unloading area and date with you in advance; for destinations within the port area, we coordinate gate registration together. We also serve jobs on the Riviera di Ponente and the Riviera di Levante. If you are also managing construction sites in northern Italy, you can rent from us for Milan, Turin or Florence as well.
Anyone operating a rental machine in Genoa needs the abilitazione under Italian law
If you rent in Genoa without an operator, the machines are subject to the rules of the Italian occupational safety law on work equipment (D.Lgs. 81/2008, Testo unico, Titolo III). Four points matter for your planning:
-
Operator qualification: Mobile elevating work platforms (PLE) and ride-on forklifts may only be operated by persons with a special qualification (abilitazione). The legal basis is art. 73 c. 5; training is governed by the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025. An IPAF card may be held in addition, but does not replace the abilitazione.
-
Instruction by the employer: In addition, the employer owes its employees appropriate, machine-specific instruction and practical training (formazione e addestramento, art. 73 c. 4).
-
Handover under art. 72 c. 2: At handover, we certify the proper condition of the machine; in return, you provide us with a self-declaration (dichiarazione autocertificativa) on the training of your operators.
-
Periodic inspection: Aerial work platforms and telehandlers are subject to the annual verifica periodica under Allegato VII; the first inspection is carried out by INAIL.
At handover, we explain operation, emergency lowering and safety devices to your team. We do not provide operating personnel – the machines are operated by your own qualified staff.
