Rent aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers in Milan
If you need to refurbish a facade, set up a trade fair stand or stock a logistics warehouse in Milan, rent the right machine from Luibl Rental: scissor, articulated and telescopic boom lifts, forklifts and telehandlers, delivered with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site. The Lombardy metropolis has around 1.4 million inhabitants, with several million more living in the wider metropolitan area. Narrow courtyards in the center, high-rise districts, huge halls in the surrounding area and strict access rules place different demands on every rental machine. This page matches the equipment to Milan's job sites and explains which obligations Italian occupational safety law imposes on you as the operating company.
Milan calls for lifting equipment for trade fairs, high-rise construction and logistics
Hardly any Italian city combines as many different construction tasks as Milan. Four focal areas shape demand for rental equipment:
-
Trade fairs in Rho-Pero: The Fiera Milano grounds host leading trade fairs such as the Salone del Mobile and the EICMA motorcycle show. When stands are set up and dismantled, hall floors, ceiling heights and short time windows matter – a typical case for electrically powered aerial work platforms and compact forklifts.
-
New urban districts: Porta Nuova, CityLife and the former Expo site, now the MIND innovation district, have changed the skyline. Maintenance of glass facades, fit-out of office space and new construction phases on former railway and industrial land keep facade builders and building services engineers permanently busy. Further large buildings were added for the 2026 Winter Olympics, including the Olympic Village on the former Porta Romana freight yard.
-
Logistics ring around the city: Distribution centers line the Tangenziali and the A1, A4, A7 and A8 motorways, for example in Segrate, Peschiera Borromeo or towards Lodi. Electric forklifts run in multi-shift operation here, and scissor lifts are used for racking, lighting and sprinkler work.
-
Existing buildings in the center: Between the Navigli, Brera and Porta Venezia stand late-19th-century apartment buildings with galleries facing the courtyard, the case di ringhiera. Gutters, cornices and courtyard facades there can only be reached with narrow, maneuverable machines.
Aerial work platforms in Milan: the design depends on access and height
The right platform for Milan comes down to two questions: How does the machine get to the work area, and what height and outreach does your team need there?
-
Through the courtyard entrance: For courtyards behind an archway and for stairwells or shops, mast lifts are ideal. They are narrow enough for standard door openings and put hardly any load on the floor.
-
On the hall floor: Exhibition halls, supermarkets and warehouses on the outskirts are the territory of scissor lifts. With electric drive, they work at heights of 8 to 18 m without exhaust emissions at the job site and offer a large platform for two fitters plus material.
-
Over canopies and ramps: Where obstacles lie between the set-up position and the work area, articulated boom lifts use their jib to place the basket over them, at more than 35 m if required.
-
On high-rise facades: For great heights and long outreach, for example on office buildings in Porta Nuova or on hall roofs in business parks, choose telescopic boom lifts; the largest machines in our fleet reach up to 57 m.
The platforms come mainly from Haulotte and Genie. We service each machine to the manufacturer's specifications before every rental. For mobile elevating work platforms, in Italian piattaforme di lavoro mobili elevabili (PLE), Annex VII of D.Lgs. 81/2008 requires an annual inspection (verifica periodica); the first of these inspections is carried out by INAIL.
Forklifts and telehandlers in Milan move pallets, goods and building materials
For Milan's wholesale trade, the courier and e-commerce warehouses in the surrounding area and shell construction sites, we supply handling equipment to match the load:
-
Forklifts with electric drive for halls and cold stores, with diesel engines for open areas and building materials yards. For food and pharmaceutical warehouses, we recommend tires that leave no marks on the floor.
-
Telehandlers from Manitou, Merlo and Magni lift loads over site fences onto floor slabs. One example is the Manitou MT 730 H with 3,000 kg lifting capacity and 6.90 m lift height – enough for pallets of bricks, insulation or facade panels. In Italy, telehandlers must also be inspected annually under Annex VII.
You can rent by the day, for a trade fair week or for the entire construction period. If you need a platform and material handling at the same time, we combine both in one quote. For outdoor work in winter, when fog and cold in the Po Valley make for long working days, telehandlers with a heated cab are worth considering.
In Milan, only operators with an abilitazione may operate the rental machine
For work in Milan, Italian occupational safety law applies, in particular the Testo unico on health and safety at work (D.Lgs. 81/2008) with its Title III on work equipment (attrezzature di lavoro). This results in three points you should clarify before the rental starts:
-
Proof of qualification: Aerial work platforms as well as ride-on forklifts and telehandlers may only be operated by persons holding an operator qualification (abilitazione) under the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025; the legal basis is Art. 73 para. 5. An IPAF card may be held in addition, but does not replace this abilitazione.
-
In-company instruction: The abilitazione alone is not enough. Under Art. 73 para. 4, the employer must additionally give its staff appropriate, machine-specific instruction (formazione e addestramento).
-
Handover for rental without operator: At handover, we certify that the machine is in proper, serviced and safe condition. In return, we obtain your self-declaration that your operators are trained (dichiarazione autocertificativa) and keep it for the entire rental period. This is what Art. 72 para. 2 requires.
We do not provide operating personnel. On delivery, however, we show your team the controls, emergency lowering and safety devices of the machine (istruzioni all'uso).
Delivery in Milan is made with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site
We organize transport ourselves: with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site, whether an exhibition hall in Rho, an excavation pit in Sesto San Giovanni or a courtyard in the old town. Separate access rules apply to the city center within Area C, and many streets lack space for unloading. That is why we agree route, unloading point and date with you in advance. If you are working at other sites in northern Italy at the same time, we also deliver to Brescia, Turin or Genoa.
