Rent aerial work platforms and forklifts in Rome
Whether facade restoration in Trastevere, light replacement in an administrative building in the EUR district or order picking in a hall on the Grande Raccordo Anulare: Luibl Rental rents you aerial work platforms, forklifts and telehandlers in Rome and brings them with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site. The capital poses special challenges – almost three million inhabitants, a historic center with strict access rules and buildings whose fabric is centuries old. The following sections show which machine suits which Roman situation, which obligations Italian occupational safety law places on you as the operating company and how we plan delivery.
In Rome, demand for lifting equipment arises mainly in five areas
Rome is less of an industrial city than Milan or Turin; instead, administration, tourism, services and an enormous building stock shape the market. This results in clearly defined fields of application:
-
Heritage conservation and refurbishment of older buildings: The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Palazzi of travertine, brick and plaster, churches and cornices require platforms that can be positioned precisely and put as little load as possible on the ground.
-
Office and administrative buildings: Ministries, authorities and corporate headquarters are located in the center, in the EUR district and along Via Cristoforo Colombo. Maintenance of building services, facade cleaning and interior fit-out are the tasks here.
-
Tiburtina technology and business corridor: In the east of the city, companies from electronics, aerospace and IT line up. Hall installation and plant construction are typical rental occasions here.
-
Airport, trade fair and coast: Around Fiumicino Airport and the Fiera di Roma lie hangars, cargo terminals and exhibition halls; scissor and telescopic boom lifts are needed for trade fair set-up and maintenance.
-
Logistics and pharma in the surrounding area: Large distribution centers have been built along the A1 north of the city, and pharmaceutical and chemical companies operate in the south around Pomezia. Forklifts and indoor platforms are in demand here.
In addition, there are infrastructure projects such as the extension of metro line C under the center, station conversions and the renewal of schools and hospitals. On such construction sites, several trades work side by side, often in confined spaces and with traffic flowing.
Roman old buildings, halls and facades call for different aerial work platforms
Which platform is right in Rome usually depends less on height than on access. Four constellations come up again and again.
In the courtyards (cortili) of the palazzi, the route often ends at an archway. Mast lifts fit through such passages and through standard doors; they are also suitable for work in church naves or shops. If you need more height in the courtyard, consider narrow electric scissor lifts.
In front of facades with balconies, cornices and window pediments, articulated boom lifts work best: their basket can be guided over projections to the wall without the chassis having to stand directly in front of it.
In logistics and production halls on the Tiburtina or in Pomezia, the machine stands on level concrete. Electric scissor lifts are economical there because they offer large work platforms and run without exhaust emissions at the job site.
On taller buildings in the EUR district, on hall roofs at the airport or on structures above tracks, telescopic boom lifts with a long boom also reach points far away from the set-up position.
Our platforms come mainly from Genie and Haulotte. Every machine is serviced to the manufacturer's specifications before delivery.
Forklifts and telehandlers in Rome move material on site and in the warehouse
In addition to platforms, we rent out equipment for material flow in Rome:
-
Forklifts with electric drive for warehouses and supermarket logistics, with diesel engines for open areas and as rough-terrain forklifts for unpaved construction sites on the outskirts, for example in new residential areas beyond the Raccordo.
-
Telehandlers for shell construction: they place pallets of blocks, insulation or scaffolding parts over edges onto floor slabs and roofs. The Manitou MT 730 H lifts up to 3,000 kg to 6.90 m; for more reach, we carry models from Manitou, Merlo and Magni.
Many Roman projects combine both – for example a roof refurbishment in which a telehandler lifts material and an articulated boom lift brings the tradespeople to the eaves. We offer such packages in one quote, for a few days or for the entire construction period.
In warehouses of the food trade and the pharmaceutical industry, the hall floor also matters: for coated or sensitive surfaces, we recommend electric forklifts with non-marking tires. On construction sites with slopes, gravel or clay – not uncommon in the Roman hinterland – four-wheel drive and high ground clearance are more important than a compact design.
Italian occupational safety law applies in Rome – operators need the abilitazione
The decisive law for work in Rome is Decreto Legislativo 81/2008 (Testo unico sulla salute e sicurezza sul lavoro), whose Titolo III governs work equipment. This results in three areas of obligation:
-
Operators: Anyone controlling a mobile elevating work platform (PLE) or a ride-on forklift needs an abilitazione under the Accordo Stato-Regioni of 17 April 2025 (art. 73 c. 5). An IPAF card may be held in addition, but does not replace this qualification.
-
Employers: They must also give their staff targeted instruction and guidance themselves (art. 73 c. 4) – the abilitazione alone is not enough.
-
Inspections: Mobile elevating work platforms are subject to the annual verifica periodica under Allegato VII, the first of which is carried out by INAIL. An annual cycle also applies to telehandlers.
For rental without an operator, we confirm the proper condition of the machine at handover and have you declare in writing that your operators are trained (art. 72 c. 2). On site, we explain the controls and emergency functions. We do not provide drivers or machine operators.
We plan delivery in Rome with the ZTL and narrow alleys in mind
We deliver with our own low-loader fleet directly to the job site – to the city center as well as to Ostia, Fiumicino, Tivoli or the Castelli Romani. Large parts of the center are designated as a Zona a traffico limitato (ZTL); whether and how a low-loader may enter is therefore agreed with you before the appointment, as are the unloading area, the load-bearing capacity of the ground and any closures. For projects outside the capital, you can also rent from us for Naples, Florence or Bologna.
